We can agree on that but the quote was contrived to mislead.
I still advocate for a consumption tax as the fairest tax.
There's an entire industry built on "tax preparation* that is fighting tooth and nail to prevent simplification of the tax code because they've found a way to work the system and they don't want that system to change.

Matter of fact, that's basically the problem with every system . Someone somewhere has found a way to make it work to their advantage and will do everything in their power to keep it as is.

Honestly, I don't think so. I'm not a narcissistic sociopath. I'd be quite happy with just enough to live a comfortable life and not have to worry about working or expenses. Having hundreds of millions or billions of dollars doesn't appeal to me at all. I have no need for power and control. I'd just as soon see other people get to live comfortable lives. There's plenty to go around if we stop people from hoarding it somehow.

$15m would be more than plenty, and that's not even half a drop in a bucket compared to the F100 list.

Why the fuck would I want to manage a $3t business when I could be out sleeping in a deer stand somewhere or knocking back beers on a fishing boat?

Edit: I've had to work full time since I was basically 16. It would be nice to even just have a break that's not a one week vacation where you try to cram in as much as you can. You know, just some time to actually rest. Happiest times of my life are when I switch jobs and schedule a month between leaving and starting.

Took the words outof my mouth.

He complains billionaires dont pay enough taxes, then we talk through it and it turns out they're taxed the same way he is.

Then it turns out the problem is those people have too much and everyone else not enough.

I'm sticking with it: The only difference between him and them is they have a few more bucks than he does and he can't stop PMSing about it.

A few more bucks. Yah, they just have a few more bucks. Just a few. Basically no difference between me and bill gates aside from a few bucks.

It astounds me how much you willingly miss the point of what I'm trying to say.

I get the point just fine, I just don't care because it's the same complaint everyone has had from the beginning of time.

Yeah, we'd all like things to be 'better', whatever that means to us personally.

What you got ain't new, as was said in No Country for Old Men. You're acting like this is some recent development and not the normal human state. There have *always* been outlier talents resulting in great creation and accumulation of wealth.

You think things can be different, and that's your great error. Most people aren't still so naive in their late 30s.

So go on, have your pity party. It won't get you anywhere. Buckling down and grinding, however, already has helped your life. I would suggest your energy is better spent there than hoping for the impossible.

I'm not naive, I'm taking full advantage of the system to the best of my ability. Only a fool throws up their hands and says, "welp, nothing can change, it is the way it is :(." We need to crowd fund you a history degree so you can see exactly how wrong you are. Even just a casual look at the rise and fall of empires would show you we're at the peak of ours. If more people worked towards furthering humanity rather than just giving up and accepting the status quo, we'd be far better off. But, you know, 49% of people are below average intelligence.

Half of US adults can't read a book at an 8th grade reading level. https://www.wyliecomm.com/2021/08/whats-the-latest-u-s-literacy-rate/

And you know why? Because education challenges the people that own everything

To everyone who skipped to this page, the TLDR is @jandrews and @kairo arguing for five pages and then still not agreeing.

The only way to settle this dispute is with a celebrity death match style brawl.........

Show me any example from history of a society where ownership of wealth was evenly distributed.

No one is claiming *nothing* can change, what I am telling you is that *human nature* will not be changed.

Ever consider that they're just below average intelligence and can't do any better?

Again, we just talked earlier in this thread about research showing that education has an essentially negligible effect on people of comparable intelligence and talent. And I'm sure if you think about it, you'll realize most of the highly intelligent people you know are effective autodidacts - they don't need the education system because it slows them down.

I have agreed with you in previous discussions that we need a better societal plan for people to the left side of human intelligence bell curve, and it is precisely because of this concept. They have an ability ceiling that the economy is going to automate pretty soon leaving them without economic value. And then we really are in the middle of the question of "what is the intrinsic worth of a human being?" That's going to go some scary places if history (there it is again) is any indicator.
