Swapped OE stereos, now I have no clock

Good evening peoples!

I have a '15 base Taco AC 4x4, it had the base model stereo, just basic BT for phone/streaming connection. One of these.

A buddy gave me his stereo out of his '14 Sport, one of these.


It was a simple job to pop the trim, remove the old one, swap the side brackets onto the "upgrade" stereo, plug everything into the backside of the HU. I found 2 tiny antenna connectors covered in foam in my harness, I opened them up and plugged them into the new HU. I imagine that they are for a SAT antenna, which I do not have.

Everything seems to work ok, the enhanced HD stereo receiver and cover art graphic is neat to see, it doesn't actually change the quality of the sound. Under the 'options' tab, I see something for a USB port? Is there an aux cable that I need to buy and plug into the HU to gain that function?

I no longer have a clock showing, that's my only gripe. I found a setting for the stereo clock, as far as a time zone, DLS, ect and everything apperas to be turned on, yet I have no actual clock display. Would anyone have any ideas as to why, or know of ny hidden menus that I need to find and activate? My phone paired to the unit, it makes calls. I have music and presets and all of the jazz, just no clock.

 

It's because 14 and earlier trucks had the clock in the dash so it wasn't enabled on the radio, I don't know of a way to enable the clock on the older radios.

 

Not sure if you can get it to display on the head unit itself. But the 05-14 years had the clock in the unit right below the stereo - integrated with the hazard switch assembly. You could buy one of these hazard/clock assemblies and install that.

Here are some pics. You can see the 05-14 had a clock where your 15 says "TACOMA".

 

Your pictures didn't load but here's what my 14 looks like, on 08 and earlier models I belive the clock had red text.

 

and the earlier ones are a bit different shaped..........

 

The above model looks similar to my 2007, and like mine the red LED clock is hard to see.

 

Not to high jack this thread but, do any 3rd gen OEM radio’s fit 12-15s?

 

Doubt it.

Why not just get a aftermarket deck anyways? They are way better then the oem junk radio.

 

Fair enough, was just browsing eBay and prices are similar or way more on OEM radios. Wanted the clean look, but…

 

Thanks to everyone that helped. Now I will go look for the separate clock pieces. Does anyone know about the 'USB' feature?

I have a 2105 JBL in my 2013 JBL. Both clocks show up.

 

Right, there's a tab in the menu that says 'USB'

How'd you score that futuristic setup 92 yrs early?

 

It's a black faced 6 disc with gray buttons and 2012 black knobs....never have issue seeing the clock. Truck is off in the pic but when it's on it's plenty visible.

 

That's for playing music off a USB thumb drive plugged into the USB port.

 

Oh ok, thought I saw some dark red LED. Didn't realize it was off. I wish mine was a 6 disc. Yes, I still have blank CDs and a PC with a CD burner.

It's certainly doable to add the earlier clock to a later truck. There are at least one thread on here talking about which pin position on the connector needs to have power run to it. I have one of the earlier hazard-clock panels, in fact, for when I get a chance to do some electrical work under the dash.

But I sure wish there were a way to enable clock display on the earlier head units. With GPS, the nav system knows precisely what time it is.
