I had to LOL to this...I want it just for the sake of having it...because it looks great!

My wife just doesn't understand me...well, maybe she does and just doesn't accept my logic. ("Accept" meaning understand my reasoning)

I don't question her logic (dare not is more factual). If I want to keep the peace, I keep my purchases/wants for Special Occasions.

This lesson learned during my 32+ years of marriage.

This is a thing of beauty.

I'd break color of the battery tie-down with silver or black...but that's just me.

The paint job on the engine cover is sweet!

This a secret don’t tell nobody trd exhaust with cold air intake. Changed my truck no bs. I’m now running S&B Cold Air intake it’s also enclosed I only switched up because the reservoir melted from heat I guess it was like 105 degrees for a week here in Colorado when this occurred. The S&B seems better with sound and performance 110 mph

I'm not married so not having to discuss large purchases goes into the pro category. And I hear ya, it looks great and even though I rarely open the hood, the shop that I use for oil changes and such should look at a matching engine bay. Which is why I'll also eventually get the supercharger for my truck. It's funny because I'm probably one of the least matching women out there, I mean, I have nice clothes and it's not horrible. But when it comes to my truck, everything has to look amazing or else I'm not happy.

Color coordinating my engine bay matters!

I bought my TRD kit on one of the big % off and free shipping sales Toyota seems to do annually. Then I sold the oiled filter to offset the cost, since I didn’t want to use it anyways. When all was said and done it cost me about $230.

    @Aqualoon

I try to open the hood on my Sport at least once a week since I have Hood Struts.

Mind you, I do open it after I wash it so the water drains off.

I'm slowly starting to accentuate my engine bay. So far just the TRD Oil Cap. When I replace the battery to have no caps, I'll put the black/red Battery Tie-Down on it. The silver one I had didn't work out too well because of the caps leaking acid to the to the tie-down bracket.

I'm sure you color match/coordinate your clothes just fine.

I am no engineer or mechanic so may be way off with this, but wouldn't a "performance" intake actually reduce fuel economy? The intake is introducing more air into the engine so logic would assume the computer would increase fuel to correct the air fuel ratio?

No. Think of it as though you are trying to breath through a straw. The straw would be a huge restriction to you getting air into your lungs. Intakes and performance exhaust make it easier for your engine to breath and increase the amount of air and fuel that you "can" run through the engine over a given amount of time. Opening that up will typically increase performance. At 60 mph on the highway the same amount of air fuel mixture is going through the engine in both senario's. The issue with the Tacoma's is that they come from the factory pretty much maxed out to begin with. Hell the air filter is the same size as the Tundra V8. The only real control that you have over mileage is with your right foot. If the new sound created by a new intake and exhaust excites you and your right foot gets carried away, your gas mileage will suffer. If you drive the way you did before you got your intake and exhaust, there will be little or no change in fuel economy.

ETA: I have two Tacoma's. A 2018 TRD Sport and a 2019 limited that my wife drives. My Sport has TRD exhaust, TRD intake and a KDmax tune. The Limited is completely stock. They get identical gas mileage.

I did the same, kd max tune, Pro intake and filter, trd exhaust. Sounds good. Gets up and goes.

Thanks. That is actually vinyl overlay on the engine cover letters. It has held up well.

Yeah the biggest improvements do come from the gas pedal. The Tacoma seems to have a sweet spot as far as mpg goes of around 55 mph. Now with that said I still say the CAI helped.
I travel the same road 5 days a week, 40 miles there and 40 miles back, with cruise control and on that highway my mpg improved around 2mpg. I set the same speed every trip, use gas from the same station and travel at roughly the same time each day. On the way there I get a little better mpg because its slightly down hill as I head to the coast and thats reversed as I head back.

Maybe I read it wrong but you said your truck "maybe performed better" before the tune but it sounded better after. To you what are the pros and cons of the KDMAX tune?

It seemed a little more responsive after the CAI and exhaust. It was done the same day and drives after each install. The two worked well, can't really tell if hp was gained but it just felt smoother. I have had every tune from KDMAX and now the newest Pro tune. It is an entirely different driving truck. Off the line is more powerful and more low end torque and it climbs into the powerband faster, shifts are spot on and very crisp shifting. Holds gears perfect, no gear hunding and MPGs are about 19 on the average. They all work great together, its a blast to drive, and no way I'm going to 285's and rob my power, 265/70/17s are a win/win with this set up!

In my understanding of the tune, it changes how the pedal and the computer control the actual throttle. No lag. And if you’re in a manual, then the adm is quite the cats ass.

The stock intake and filter is capable of providing more air than the engine can use.

Makes sense. I only really went with the TRD filter for the cool factor and as I already have a cleaning kit and oil. Less crap going to the landfill.
