I mean... This isnt the wrong answer. I have to drive 100km minimum to find a rideable paved road where I live.

They're also central, the open roads are pretty near carless, and despite being "glover states" they're pretty dang nice places to ride a bike.

Alright so looking at some gravel bikes on pinkbike. I've bought some stuff on r/hardwareswap before, so I'm assuming its similar where you message the person, work out a deal, then they send you a paypal G&S invoice right? I know about using G&S for protection on both buy/sell ends, but its there anything else I should know?

probably going to have one shipped since they're all out of drivable range, so I'm looking into how bikeflights works

Yeah I guess the vehicle traffic is the main thing, the fewer cars driving through then the fewer paved roads you need. I heard a story of a group of guys that passed a Lamborghini that was either stuck or just pissed off that he ended up on a gravel road....it's probably not gonna be a gravel road for much longer...

Yeah that's pretty much it, like you said dealing with shipping is the only pain. For the frame I just got the guy I bought it from used Bikeflights and got a box from his bike shop. Shops will usually give boxes away for free or super cheap.

You always run the risk of scammers online but my personal thing is trying to buy from people with a history of selling stuff on pinkbike as the first good sign. Since you've gotten stuff online before then it should be all about the same.

    have you seen biketown yet?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBcFzjP31jQ&ab_channel=FreehubMagazine

short answer is someone rides out there, sees all the roads, city doesn't have much going on, so they organize a big event. event brings tourism and money, so they keep doing it

or maybe thats from another bike video i watched

    To date,
    Rides: 81
    Time: 76h 43m
    Distance: 764 mi
    Elev Gain: 38,002 ft

This is my first year really riding. I set a goal of 50k feet of climbing at the beginning of the year, not really knowing if it was achievable or what it would take to hit that goal (again, first real year of riding). I'd like to hit 1k miles also and now I'm starting to think both are possible.

I haven’t been riding as much as I should this year. My stats are just 36 rides, 530 miles, and 54K feet of climbing. 90% of that is mountain bike and I don’t always remember to use Strava, so the actuals are bit higher but probably less than 10% off.

if we're posting our yearly stats so far:
    upload_2022-8-24_14-36-10.jpg
I've ridden more this year than last year, but still have a ways to go if I'm gonna make that new years goal of 2k miles. starting to think the 200k elevation gain goal is a little much, but mainly wanted the miles anyway.

I brought up relocating to another state and remote work with my employer and they seem to be on board. Right now sights are set of front range CO, with Colorado Springs being high on the list. We are planning a short trip in December to get an idea on winter climate, even though its a bit early. The thought of all the riding/outdoors out there make me giddy.

Winter can be snowy and wet, or bone dry. However, when it does snow, it usually melts within a few days to a week, leaving trails in great conditions. Trail systems in Canon City and Pueblo are often open year since the precip is less coupled with warmer temps.

Hopefully you've done some research on housing market in this area... I feel for anyone trying to relocate here.

I've done a small amount and it seems comparable if not cheaper than Tampa. One of the bigger expenses that would be almost eliminated would be the commute, but there's definitely trade-offs that need to be considered.

Found a 2021 Cannondale topstone 1 that I'm really considering. Price is a tad higher than the bicycle blue book value, but I also have heard that site tends to undervalue bikes. not looking for a killer deal, just don't want to overpay. So this could be exciting if it's the one

Anyone ever been able to squeeze in two mountain bike rides on their anniversary?

I was asked to be in some footage for my towns tourism board. So me and a buddy hit the trails this morning for some golden hour filming.

Then my wife is going to yoga tonight which is at the trailhead. So I proposed we'd take a romantic ride over there together and I'd do a loop while she does yoga. Then to the brewery after for an anniversary beer. Not bad!

My daughter, who has been pedaling to school since Pre-K, started her sixth grade year riding with her friends instead of me. She was ready for it. I wasn’t! Boooo! :pout:At least my 3rd grader still needs a hand with the hills…

Shipped it Monday, Fox got it Tuesday, shipped back to me today. Will have it tomorrow.

Looks like just a standard rebuild got it all squared away. Didn't get dinged for any extra parts.
