if the intention is for it to be stained then yes , like my window trims

I'm leaving my soffits and gable shingles natural on this building so they will patina to grey to blend with the corrugated , the trims I wanted to be an accent so I stained them like the timbers

I did this on my house and still have the jigs for making the shingles for this pattern but there's not enough room on that front gable wall with the window and its time consuming so I'm not doing it on the back for the squirrels to admire

 

It's OK. The squirrels will still be able dry hump your smooooooooooth soooooooft shingles back there with decreased risk of suffering from splinter dick.
