    Hey all.

i just bought my 2020 Tacoma and my wife is going to be using it for camping trips every now and then. She is wanting to find a good tonneau cover, probably one of the trifold ones unless theres a reason not to, for camping purposes. She wants to be able to put all the stuff in the bed and keep the rain out if it rains. Preferably also soft unless theres a good reason for not having something softer than a solid cover. What are your thoughts? I figured I should come here in addition to reading reviews

Bakflip MX4. Had mine 1+ years now and I really like it.
No cover will keep every drop out. Period. End of that story.
But I get very little in my bed.

I like the hard-cover because I can stand in the bed with a few panels flipped over, setup a tripod, and get the shot.
Or step out of the truck and sling ( gently ) camera gear up there.

I understand you can damn near stand on it but I'm not testing it.

Bakflip MX4 is going to have some water getting in, but very minimum, not enough to get anything seriously wet and almost always around the edges of the bed, things in the center of the bed stay bone dry for me.

Other than that, it's very nice because:
    • installation was easy
    • you still retain the cargo rails relocated
    • 0 maintenance compared to roll-out ones in a canister, which you will at some point need to clean and lubricate stuff

Access Vanish on 3 trucks, Taco being the latest. I prefer low profile and roll up type. I know thats not the sexy pick, but Im cheap and I likes what I likes.
Tight as a drum on my Rams with very minimal leakage. The Taco gets a little up front, I need to seal off the daylight up by the bulkhead better, but havent got around to it.
Works for me and the price is right.

Edit...forgot to mention, can also still use the bed rail cleats with this cover which is a definite plus.

The Bakflip covers generally receive the best accolades. The Toyota OEM tonneau is pretty good. You should also take a look at the Extang Solid Fold tonneau cover.

    See https://extang.com/solid-fold-2-0

The only drawback to the Extang is the front clamps. You can tighten them too much and deform the cover some. However the cover is easy on and off.

The smart money is really with Bakflip.

I second the BakFlip 100%! It's a bit more expensive than most but completely worth the price. It has a nice profile that sits flush with the bed. The four panels offer the fully locked down option (which I have used for camping repeatedly), as well as quick adjustments to a half open as well as fully open and locked position for a variety of bed loading options with the pull of a handle. It was easy to instal alone (it took less than an hour) and it has stayed durable and good looking for over a year now (through multiple local car washes). It really is worth the investment for overall ease of use, look, durability, and overall quality. (I'm not affiliated with the company at all, I just am really pleased with the purchase).

Anybody check into the Sawtooth roll up tonneau covers? It allows for items above the bed sides. I’m wanting to buy it but no reviews yet on this forum.

Diamond back is my favorite. Biased opinion of course.

    - modular
    - tough
    - doesn't mess with bedrail
    - doesn't encroach into actual bed space
    - simple install

Anyone have an UnderCover one? I’ve heard it’s a sister company of BakFlip I believe

I'd second a Diamondback. Heavy duty, adds good security, and easy enough to install and remove when needed. I have also added Front Runner's racks to occasionally mount a roof top tent on the back.

I also really like Diamondback's Crossbin 8 (allows items to still slide under it).

No cover will seal perfectly, so keep anything you really need to stay dry away from the corners, thats were they leak. I have a lomax that works quite well.

I looked at the Bakflip X4S, Bakflip MX4, Lomax Stance, Tyger Auto and Truxedo Truxport. I chose the Bakflip X4S. It doesn't block the back window when folded completely up, it's got aluminum slats under the vinyl to keep cargo secure and it sits very flush.

Send a PM to Luke at Truck Alterations for a price on whatever cover or cover's you're considering. Forum members get discounts.

Another Diamond Back fan here. Pricey but works great, is very solid and secure.

Do you ever worry about the Bakflip MX4 not having a lock?

Get the oem power tailgate lock. It's about $130 and it's plug and play. Otherwise, lock your tailgate with the key.

I have a bakflip mx4, I ran a bead of rtv along the side when installing. I have absolutely 0 water intrusion

I love how it sits flush and I get to keep the side rails
