Lately I've been trying to decide which exhaust to get for my '21 Taco. I've narrowed it down to either a Flowmaster FlowFX or Flowmaster Outlaw. They both have a louder sound than stock which is what I am going for. I've talked to some friend about it and they think I should pay the $400 extra and get a Borla. I think the Borla's sound good but I would prefer paying $300 rather than $700ish. What would the best decision be here?

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
TRD Performance exhaust is best IMHO.

Trd exhaust. Loud 3.5 exhausts sounds like ass.

TRD High Flow Sound Ok but you got to throttle her up to get a really nice sound. It's a light pure when cruising. I would prefer something a little more aggressive sounding.

Carven might not sound bad. Or some aFe. But exhausts like MBRP and Flowmaster on a v6 Tacoma? It'll sound terrible (imo). Raspy and can-ish

After 4 years still loving my Borla. It’s a hair louder than TRD but it has very similar tone. No drone at cruising speeds.

Yeah, I was looking at Carven too, I like those. I'm fairly new to the whole car/truck community. It seems as if I have gotten off on the wrong foot a bit with some people lmao. I just don't like how low and flat the stock exhaust sounds and from what I've seen when I look up sound clips of the TRD exhaust it sounds practically the same. Maybe I'm not watching the right ones, idk.

Get a tune for the money you're going to spend on any exhaust. You will be still driving in the right lane......

The TRD is mildly different that the standard exhaust. That difference is probably difficult to hear in a video posted online.
Note also not all exhausts are created equal. Quality aside, there is a way to tune an exhaust to sound decent on the 3.5. It's my opinion that most worsen the sound. Shop around. You're bound to find the one you like.

Yeah, that's definitely a good point. I don't see myself tuning it anytime soon. But who knows maybe I'll look into it when I eventually get whatever exhaust I get.

TRD Catback and Borla S Type will be the quietest ones. Carven, Flowmaster will be on the louder to obnoxious end of the sound spectrum and the Stromung is kind of in the middle.

FYI, loud exhausts are no fun for road trips.

Personally, I'd pick the TRD Catback.

Yeah, I just put a pedal commander in mine so it's a bit touchy on the higher settings. Definitely recommend looking into one, Helps the acceleration a shit ton.

Yeah, I need to keep that part in mind, I plan on building for overlanding sort of so I'll look deeper into this so I can make the best decision for this that I can.

    Every warranty available.
Friend has borla and i have the trd on my 21' pro.
Borla is a touch "beefier" sound, both have a nice startup to high-idle sound.
If i did not own a pro that came with the trd, it would be a hard choice for me. I'd take borla for sound only, but trd for looks / oem finish, and "warranty".

When I say loud to obnoxious I mean drone. You might like the Magnaflow Overland Catback. It's adjustable for noise levels. Or you could just swap the stock muffler for something else.
