    Lemme restate that…

My truck will be under continuous construction for the next 4-infinite years, much to the annoyance of everyone in my life, and my financial situation will deteriorate to previously unseen levels.

RCI Steel skid plate. most of that was on 30s and no lift at Ardbeg. I'll let it speak for itself.

    :notsure:

Aluminum will do the job as well and will be lighter. there are a few guys that run the OKX plates, solid for the odd time to head to the trail.

    That it?

    Rattle can will fix that...

    Those aren't even scratches,

I've got an Al OKX plate.

I agree , for people that want their trucks to still be a daily driver they are fine.

When you get past the point that Al skids are not good enough,

You will have broken many other things on your truck first.
(notice that no names were mentioned in the above sentence, but we ALL KNEW )

Nice thing about Aluminum skids is they are easier to beat back into shape with a BFH if you do hit rocks going way too fast.
    And they don't rust.

This was the exact testimony I was looking for. Thanks!! That’s my exact use case. Daily driver with some moderate off-roading (ardbeg, northern Ontario, 3/4 trails).

Invest in a good steel ifs skid first to replace the trd skid

Next get a good steel transfer case skid and just do the exhaust reroute.

these 2 skids will see the most abuse with the full weight of the truck slamming on them

Trans skid probably fine with aluminum, i know mine hasn't really seen much action (yet) but both my ifs and trasfer case skids have been through hell.

    *edit*
Aluminum should be fine if your not wheeling that hard but just something to consider. IIRC the trd skid is more of just a glorified splash guard so if proctection is what you want, id start there.

I run that exact skid....served me well. Easy on off for maintenance and light weight!!
I've had it on for a while ...its taken a few hits without issue.

I just put a set of these on before Yota crawl and so far so good! Way beefier then the set of aluminum skids I installed last season...but I don't do much hard-core offroading...o_O

Make sure you have a plan with priorities. For example, once you put 40" tires on, skid plates become optional. BigMike and Dirt Lifestyle Nate both do Moab and Johnson Valley with no skids.

Jokes aside, 1/4" aluminum bends easily. My bumper kissed the rock ledge at the end of the water crossing in Anson North and this happened:

IMO a good balance between weight and durability is 1/8" steel skids - it doesn't smear against rocks like aluminum does, and you can bend it back without losing a lot of strength. Unfortunately the only company making those is BudBuilt, and their design isn't ideal for clearance.

Make sure you get out and see this for yourself!

It’s a wheeling/camping/outdoor paradise and there is every flavour of built Toyota out here to check out.
