I'm thinking of just yanking out the evap box. All the hoses and electrical connections, I'll waterproof with silicone tape. And I will ignore the check engine light.

What would happen if I did this? Would my fuel economy or performance suffer with this rough evap delete?

Just depends where you vent your gas fumes to.

These gas caps with the EVAP systems are sealed . the tank needs vented at least with the evap system the fumes are sucked back into the engine.

Gas vapors just need a spark to go boom .

Figure out a safe place to vent your gas vapors you will be fine. Run your vent hose direct into the intake after all the light will already be on.

1st gen gas caps are not sealed, they don't vent out but they do vent in to prevent creating a vacuum in the fuel system. Connecting EVAP hose directly to the intake will create a rich A/F ratio that can't be metered or compensated for.
    Just fix the EVAP @5efvz

Yet if your gas cap fails to hold a vacuum on the emission test it fails here in Pa. It is sealed to the outside air !!

Yes I agree the gas caps vent into the vent hose but if the vent hose is sealed from the tank you still have a vacuum being created in the tank
