I've been back and forth with Venmo the last week or so. I got a message about a new account under the name "Austin" set up under my email address. I'm not "Austin". The one way to dispute the account was to log onto "My" Venmo account to report. I DON'T HAVE A VENMO ACCOUNT with a password that I never requested or set up! Finally got Venmo to respond, they wanted me to send a copy of my I.D., Passport or other document to verify who I am....sure as hell will not!
    Can you imagine!?

You sure this is actually from Venmo and not a phishing scam?

I had to replace my login on linked in and only way was the same with an ID. Just make sure it’s the right people but it was quick once I supplied the info.

They’re criminals and old people tend to be the easy targets when it comes to tech based scams like this.

Contact venmo via their website directly (not through links in the email) or call them direct. Likely, as said above, it’s phishing to get your details.

No chance someone got into your email and setup an account? Can you log into the Venmo account through their site?

I never set up a Venmo account, therefore I do not have the password to log in. This has been a major pain in the butt!

Ok but you have the email account associated with the Venmo account, so if you use their password recovery and it’s a real Venmo account, then you should be able to get in.

If not, then it’s probably just a phishing scam and you can ignore it

Uber let "my friend" who I apparently gave riding permission to, ride for seven trips in SF... I'm in Oregon. I canceled the card three times and they let "my friend" continue to ride on new cards. They would not tell me the name of my friend. In the end I got it all sorted but what a pain. F Uber.
