There were fishing trips where I'd swing by Jack In The Box on the way and get six Breakfast Jacks and their two for a dollar tacos, times ten. If anyone ever asks you if a cold taco out of the ice chest can be successfully warmed in a JetBoil, you can tell them yes. GREAT hot lunch out on the cold water. And quick so you can get back to fishing.

This was my dad's idea of camping food. Pick up a dozen or so jack in the box cheeseburgers, but we didn't go through the trouble to reheat. Maybe that's why I went so far the other direction making food a staple of my camping trips.

Don't get me wrong! Our crew in deer camp is all about blowing it out. We have commented for years, between bites, that we eat better in deer camp than we do at home. (It helps to have a couple of good ol' gals, Cajun rice farmer's daughters raised in the Atchafalaya Basin to do the cooking for us while we are still in the woods. Dee and her sister can COOK.) We just fish too hard, and too long, to do it large in Spring fishing camp. Out on the water, fishing, before the eastern sky even starts to lighten. Many nights we are the last boats on the boat ramp, and all we want is a long hot shower and a warm hammock. We arrive back in fish camp hungry enough to eat the ass end out of a menstruating skunk, but our day on the water has left us too tired to chase them. Enter easily warmed tacos, then enter sandman.

You had me at naan bread. And that black iron skillet has been beautifully seasoned to within an inch of its life. An old-world skill set that few can successfully master. My hat is off to you Sir!

P.S. I have that same Everest stove. (Look at the size of the burners on that thang. All the Btu's a man could ask for to keep fish fry grease above 350. Can I get a Tim Allen Tool Time gorilla grunt here?) First thing I do when I open it up is to pull out the aluminum foil and cover every surface on it before cooking. MUCH less time involved than trying to clean it up the next week.

$77? I think I paid like $130. That's a heck of a deal at $77. 20,000Btu burners. Your average two-burner camp stove is 10,000-14,000Btu/burner, some as low as 8,000. Good find Ken!

Naan bread pizza's are now one of my go to's when camping. I feel so ashamed that I cannot take credit for the seasoning of the skillet, it came pre seasoned :anonymous:

I completely concur - I've been using a two burner coleman stove since I can remember (I have the 1970 model that my parents had before I was born - I remember so many meals on it as a kid). Picked up newer models over the years and got sick of two basic modes -off and HIGH. Now I can simmer! Or, boil water like crazy! make pancakes, omelettes, etc without burning them. It's amazing - way worth the money. It cleans up easy, and is super burly (and a bit heavy, but I don't mind). I love the attachment for the larger propane refillable container too.

So - before I got distracted by the Everest 2x stove post, I came here to say... Love this thread - camp cooking is one of my favorite things! I'm looking for suggestions.

In a few weeks I'll be camping for 5 nights and responsible for camp dinner for 6 adults - we will have long days in the field, so looking for easy make ahead and freeze dishes. My go-to meals for this sort of thing are soups/stews/pasta; such as: kale/sausage/white bean soup, beef/bean chili, NM green chile stew, tortellini soup. Any new ideas? No dietary restrictions but we may be under a fire restriction and thus no campfire possible. Focus on protein and carbs is good - I'll have some salad options. I like the naan pizzas mentioned above - but assembling that after a long day may be less than fun? Thanks in advance!

Fajitas are my go to for camping. Marinate the meat, and cut the onions and peppers at home. Nice big cast iron skillet will do it, and most of the ingredients can be used in other dishes like tortillas, cheese, creama, avocado. Use the leftovers with skme eggs for killer breakfast burritos a different day.

Simple killer breakfast, somewhere around 3:30am: Big Yeti tumbler half full of Community coffee, continue filling with Bailey's Irish Cream. Repeat. We are beat down from yesterday, don't feel like cooking that early.

There are recipes on the net for Irish Cream that blow Baileys away. Built on a base of Jameson. Hard part is waiting for it to mature two months in the frig. You can change the character by changing the chocolate you use. I prefer Dove chocolate in the blue foil wrapper.

Later in the morning we cook bacon and eggs/toast in the boat, 10" cast iron skillet over a JetBoil. Like food prepped in camp, it tastes better out on the water.
