I've been getting some confusing information as to lift variations between DCSB and ACLB. I've been told by people that the Access Cab will need heavier duty leaf spring because they put more leverage on the rear leafs? Im no rocket surgeon but that makes no sense to me.
If you think about it, an ACLB and DCSB have the same wheelbase... the access cab is 130lbs less in curb weight than the double cab.
I understand needing heavier springs for a double cab long bed for the added weight, but why are "educated" people telling me to get heavier rate leaf packs based only on the fact that its an access cab?
One would think you would end up with MORE lift on the access cab, not less.

I’ve never heard anyone suggest a different set of leaf springs based on the cab type; including the material published by leaf spring manufacturers.

Also note that the DCSB and ACLB have the same wheelbase. Only the DCLB has a different (longer) wheelbase.

I'm not going to drop names but this came directly from a well known suspension supplier who sells tons of good suspension to Tacoma owners... that's the only reason I'm so baffled

Maybe there was some miscommunication. Also I think you need to be precise about what the claim was and why it is important enough to start a thread on.

The response I received as to choosing between 111 and 112 Dobinsons leaf packs: "Since its a long bed, I recommend going up to the next spring pack in the rear. They have more leverage on the spring."

Is that good enough for you?

Not all salesmen are well versed in their products.

Nor do they all even work for the manuf. they are representing.

Example. Toyota salesmen work for a dealer, not Toyota.

I’m not familiar with those products, but I don’t understand why the king bed makes any difference.

It kind of sounded like you were trying to win an argument in the bar. It’s not fair to bring your internet friends into the fight on your side. :)

From that quote, I do believe that they were getting confused with the DCLB. The ACLB is forgotten sometimes.

From time to time around here, you'll see folks just post LB for the DCLB, which takes good guessing or a question to sort out.

There are suspension suppliers; then there are suspension tuners.

One sells parts; the other sells parts and knowledge.

Frankly, there are only 3 shops online I would bother getting my knowledge from.

That entered my head too, but the DCLB likely has a smaller percentage of weight on the rear axle (when unloaded), not a greater amount; albeit a small difference. But more importantly, Toyota and all aftermarket leaf spring manufacturers I have visited the web pages of do not make a distinction between the trims when recommending leaf spring products.

I am so confused by your comments dude. All I did was bring a legitimate question to TW, then when ridiculed about my claim and its "enough importance to start a thread", I provided the direct quote from the individual who is selling/recommending a suspension setup to me. Still not dropping names because he is a well known shop that frequents these threads and has helped countless people in deciding their setups. Once again, his experience and knowledge is why I am confused by his recommendation.

I am in no way trying to "win an argument" I am sincerely wondering if weight leverage difference is an actual thing between different cab/bed options. Or if someone out there has heard similar recommendations.

    But you do you boo

    This help?
Looks like an ACLB has 1/2" more leverage compared to a DCSB.

Never seen anyone recommend leafs based on that.
Unless the leaf packs between the two differ enough to matter...it might matter with stock springs. With aftermarket springs, everything is heavy duty compared to stock.

My post was meant to be light hearted humor, thus the smiley face. The way your post was worded made me have visions of you sitting in a bar having an argument with someone and then going online to get more info.
