My grandfather powered his taxi in Italy during WWII with wood gas- he modified a wood burning drum stove to produce it and ran a pipe between the stove in the trunk and his carburetor.

Don't hold your breath waiting for this to happen. There is not enough electricity produced nor is the grid large or robust enough to handle it.

If we can build gas stations up and down the highway we can build charging stations up and down the highway. Rome wasn't built in a day

We need power grid overhaul for sure
I'm all for variable pricing, so EVs can charge at night when the electricity is cheap and not competing with other electrical demands during the day.

I wish they would just standardize the batteries because then you can just drive into a battery swap station, put in your credit card and have it automatically swap in a charged one for you.

You wouldn’t even need electric infrastructure for this, they could have a large truck come and deliver fresh batteries to each station along the way.

I was thinking about this the other day. Let’s say an electric car is 10 years old, costs the current owner too much to fix so they junk it and buy something else. Disposable cars, I’m sure that’s good for the environment.

I wonder if they considered the current brownouts and fires caused by their present antiquated electrical grid....I wonder what an increase in both of those are going to do for their economy....who am I kidding, I could care less what California does or does not do...

Battery energy density is way to low for that, plus you would drastically increase the battery disposal issue.

True because in California electricity grows on trees? As is, they can’t power their own state. Where will this mysterious electricity come from?

That happens already with gas cars, no difference because it’s electric.

Actually if they were standardized it would be easier to recycle them.

Gas cars are mostly aluminum and steel, which are easy to recycle. Batteries are not easy to recycle...

You don’t get it, there are so many consumers in California that the auto makers are going to take a big hit not being able to sell gasoline cars here. It’s going to affect everybody in the US.

If only we had portable solar panels and we could put solar panels on our trucks. Oh wait we can, and they'll keep getting better.

I’m so glad I’ll be dead when all this shit it’s the fan. They’ll destroy the planet before they can find enough minerals to produce the batteries for 2billion cars.

think the drastic increase in volume would offset this. Even if you have 1 extra battery per car you would need the reduce the recycling effort by half to even break even.

At 10^23 kW, the Sun makes 10^23 kWh every hour or 10^27 kWh every year. The world uses an estimated 2*10^14 kWh each year, so the sun produces 10^12.7 times as much energy as the world uses. That means The Sun makes enough energy in 0.0000001 seconds to power the world for a year.
