OME 90000 with 2886 Coils... How Can They Be To Stiff?

Trying to figure out what is up with my front end.

2006 4.0 Tacoma. OME 90000 struts with the stiffer 2886 coils, SPC UCA's and stock LCA's.

Why did I pick 2886 coils?

    Plate bumper... check
    Winch... check
    Lower skids... check
    Sliders... check

It's a heavy Tacoma. OME and everyone else recommends the 2886 coils for heavy Tacomas.

But... my UCA's are at a crazy angle. The ride is stiff and even the LCA's and CV's look to be more angled than most 3" lifted Tacomas I have seen.

Is it possible the 2886 coils are too stiff? Making them ride at basically full extension all the time? Is it possible I somehow got a hold of coils stiffer than 2886's? Do those even exist? Is it possible my Tacoma front end is effected by gravity less than everyone else?

    So many questions...

Comments or suggestions on the UCA / LCA angles my pics show, setup, running 2885's or anything else are welcomed.

[EDIT] Coils have been on the truck for a couple years [EDIT]

    Thanks.

Did you get hub-to-fender measurements before and after to calculate your exact amount of lift? How long have the 886 coils been installed?

Agreed that it looks way too high. How soon were these pictures taken after you took the truck off of jackstand? When you first lower the truck off of stands, the suspension isn’t loaded up and it sits a couple inches higher than it should. A quick drive around down will put it where it needs to be. That’s the only thing I can think of because everything appears to be installed correctly.

This tag will say what coils they are. You could confirm they’re 2886.

Edit: you also want to make sure your lca alignment bolts are torqued with the truck on its own weight.

I measured originally but don't have the numbers. With the swapping of fender flares I would no longer have a baseline.

Installed and driven on for a few years.

Coils have been on the truck for a few years and driven.

Do you happen to know if OME makes a stiffer spring than the 2886? I will try and see what the tag actually says, thanks for the tip.

LCA's were torqued with weight of the truck on the ground.

They make a whole slew of coils but only so many fit our application. Here's a snippet of what fits our trucks, 2883-2888. If they are 886's then I'm not too sure what the issue might be, to be honest.

Thanks for the help and handy chart. I pulled the sticker on the coil as well. Definitely 886 springs.

I am just bewildered as to why they have given my Tacoma so much lift. Obviously need to go softer with some 885's.

    All of them.
Something is definitely not right. Your pretty much maxed out on you up travel. The ride must be horrible. Everything from what I can tell looks like it's in the right spot but you shouldn't be sitting that high.

Agreed. It's insane. It's like my Tacoma doesn't even have a motor in it... appearing to be so overwhelmed by the 886 coils.

Seems like 885 coils would be so undersprung for my build, but definitely is the best solution I am leaning towards.

You could go with 887s which will help with the spring rate but are a 1/2" longer than the 885s but since you probably want up travel, 885s might be needed.

Could you explain this a bit more?

That posted chart appears to only show a 5mm difference in coil length.

Are you saying the longer coil but same spring rate would result in slightly more lift than the 885's without being as stiff as the 886's?

Yes. And sorry 5mm. Couldn't recall. Didn't look at the chart.

Same spring rate as the 885's but just a bit taller.

I'd reiterate the torque spec on the on lower control arms and try removing the swaybar. I found my ride was so much better without it. Maybe check the seating of the spring on the lower perch as well....definitely looks dickered

Again... bushing torqued with LCA's on the ground.

The sway bar left the truck years ago.

yeah man...I'm stumped. I have the same setup with an aluminum pelfreybuilt, no winch and am slightly lower

Only other thing I can think of would be a seized shock, seized sleeves on the lower control arm or something else hindering articulation.

Man, same thing happened to me. after I added just the bumper, I noticed sag with the 885's. so I went up to the 886's and it fu@$#d everything up in my front end. blown 5100's, LR UCA's at terrible angles, CV boots blown, alignment cams had to be welded on. I think the 886's are for way more weight than anything but a fully built expedition vehicle. just chiming in on my experience. it may be the variance in these trucks, I guess.

So... did you go back to the 885's then?

I am thinking 885's or 887's are my fix. But I am concerned matching them with the heavier dampened 90000 strut. Then again, my current setup rides poorly with way to much rebound (as you can imagine). Would be nice to slow everything down a bit.
