If you know what you buy… Otherwise, I can’t picture myself buying a car online without trying it first. If there are no dealers, then you need to go to a central showroom of some sort and that’s not appealing to me at all. Anyway, I haven’t personally witnessed any of the horror stories we hear about American dealers in Canada yet, so maybe it’s a localized/temporary issue.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I entered the dealer knowing much more about the different Tacoma models than the sales rep did, however, your average consumer will not. I think the showroom type setup like Tesla does is probably the right middle-ground. They have sales reps available to chat about features/differences, a model or 2 to have a look at (more difficult for Toyota with many models vs Tesla) but ordering is then centralized and it's either shipped to your door or you go to one large centralized locations with your keys to pick the car up. Servicing is probably where there's also a big difference as well that helps Tesla, EVs typically require next to nothing compared to an ICE vehicle.

Four months in and I'm still waiting on an allocation for a DCSB TRD OR(non-premium). Told the dealer back in April that I didn't want it until September and they said it was do-able. Might just pivot to a Ranger or a SUV instead.

Just got a call from my dealer literally 5 mins ago. Bit of a back story. In April I picked up a 22 ELM TRD PRO auto. I was looking for a sport manual but this was coming in unspoken for in 4 weeks so I took it. While I was waiting for the auto to come in I get a call from another dealer saying they are getting a 6MT pro. Leave a deposit on it. I sold the auto based on getting the 6MT, but the order got cancelled by Toyota.
So I’ve been without for a while. BUT just 5 mins ago my dealer says they have a white 6MT pro due in December. Interest rates are a killer in these things now but they are out there.

My dealer had rates locked in for 3 months but outside of that, they couldn't do anything more. I believe most banks and credit unions won't offer anything passed that either. Alternative option would be to get your own financing now, see if you can make the same interest investing for the time being but that has its own risks and I'm not sure many lenders would take you up on that!
I'm not sure how much more rates will rise though, hopefully we're seeing the peak, or close thereto, now.

One of the dealers I had an order in for a pro said they might start getting the 2023s in starting November and he does not think I'll get my order fulfilled for a 2022. He asked if I was willing to pay more for the MSRP difference. When I asked how much, he said nothing official but "in the ballpark of $5000"

I would have to assume that the dealer is blowing smoke up your ass.

2023 TRD Pro 4Runner went up $670 in price over 2022 version in Canada, already on build site. Not sure if that is a good hint as to how much the Tacoma may go up, but I can't see 4R going up so little and Tacoma going up so much.

No contract? No deal. You pay MSRP for the year you buy, not the one you ordered. Dealers will not sign contract for trucks they don’t have.

They can't ask for more, at least in Quebec.. translated from (https://www.quebec.ca/nouvelles/act...es-consommateurs-appeles-a-la-vigilance-42543):
    "
It may also happen that the merchant tries to impose a price increase on the consumer. It should be noted that this constitutes a violation of the Consumer Protection Act (LPC). In addition, the mere fact of stipulating in a contract or elsewhere that the merchant reserves the right to increase the price also constitutes an offense under the CPA, liable to criminal prosecution and punitive damages.
    "
There is even a ruling (use translate) LOBO c. PREMIUM LAVAL CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM INC

Yes, but that’s if you have a contract. I put multiple deposits for a 2021 which never happened. I got my money back and when the 2022 showed up, I paid the new price. People don’t understand the difference between a deposit, a verbal agreement and a contract.

Yes, a deposit is often used wrongly... but if the dealer gives an invoice (not even a contract, i.e car model + car price minus $$$) and takes money from you, it is considered a contract under CPA. The amount is considered an advance payment and not a deposit.

If the dealer takes money (a deposit), for an estimated purchase, and then you get an allocation, technically, he must reimburse the deposit and start the buying process and a contract (at that time, most people use the previous deposit for an advance payment)

So if you get out of a dealership, in Quebec,
with a deposit receipt only, you will pay whatever MSRP when you get the car.
    or instead
with a paper showing the price of the car and your advance payment, you have a contract and if they cannot deliver a 2022 and they deliver a 2023 at a higher MSRP, it is their problem to solve.
    :)

I'm pretty sure they would simply tell you contract is void as they can't deliver the 2022, if you refuse to pay the higher msrp on 2023.

The law in QC (and other provinces) is there so dealers don't advertise one price and then when you go into dealer they add on more fees. This isn't what is happening here. It's simply rolling into a new model year and advertised price is different on a different model year. I am sure if the difference ends up being a few hundred bucks and if you have a good relationship with that dealer they would just cover it themselves to keep you coming for services etc.

Your piece of paper will indicate a 2022 Tacoma. When they’ll switch to a 2023, you will definitely receive something different at whatever price it is (no more than MSRP in Quebec - don’t know for other provinces). No dealer will give you a contract without a VIN.

I just found another 23 TRD PRO 6MT. I’m not sure what’s going on. My 22 that I had a deposit on got cancelled. Now it seems like they are the first 23’s to be delivered. Eta end of October.
