I spent the time retracting the verbiage that would have likely got me a permaban from TW. I think a fuck ton of people here are empathizing with the OP and would like to see a favorable outcome.

Make it your cross to carry, or don't. No fucks given.

    Man….

What’s with people just jumping to judgment (Manager) really..

That person needs to get his/her head out of anus!

    Sorry that happened man,

    FWIW….

Tell that SOB you know a guy with a 2000 Land Cruiser with 467,000 miles and not one issue with my sunroof.

    EDIT:

I wrote service for 18 years for Honda/Acura as my first career. The only reason they left the “open” for warranty coverage is they are fearful that Toyota won’t cover all the “real” labor time to do that repair. Let’s face it, how many trained technicians for any manufacturer are lining up smiling to do warranty work!

I would love to see what the warranty pays to R/R the failed components in the sunroof and how munch time to R/R the damaged wiring, then put it all back together. Wow!

I believe what you are saying is true. But the customer buying a new car should not suffer because this is an issue between the manufacturer and the dealer. Besides, the mechanic doesn’t win every time, it is part of the job. I doubt very many mechanics that work for the dealership “give” money back to the customer when they knock a five hour job in two hours. A good mechanic that gets this repair can be taken care of by throwing a few good jobs their way

and the dealer gets the bulk of the labor rate, the actual mechanic gets maybe a third. The dealership can take care of the mechanic that gets stuck with a very time consuming warranty repair

    Oh dear, that's adorable!

I used to get that from adorable, salt-encrusted, octogenarians when they got upset over something. Just know, the BBB is a private organization that cannot say anything about its NON-members other than say they "can not recommend XYZ Company." Now, if they ARE a member, they can talk smack about them but realistically, they have absolutely zero clout in the real world.

BBB used to call me several times a year for years and years wanting me to join because supposedly they had tons of people calling and asking about my business but since I wasn't a paying member, they couldn't say anything about me. I always told them that I intended to "keep it that way!" :D

normal sunroof time is usually around headliner time. i checked and flat rate is right at 2 hours for the sunroof assy... not counting the mythical "wiring" that was supposedly damaged.

also, considering how many ppm claims turn into a timing cover reseal (when the customer has no fucking idea there was a small leak) these tech sure as shit don't have a problem with warranty rates.

Let’s get back to what is going on. They’re only 2 realistic possibilities.

Possibility 1: OP is lying and in some way put the vehicle through a car wash with the sunroof not fully secured and that led to damage. This is what the dealership is claiming. Dealership feels that they will not get Toyota to pay for the repair work. This is unlikely and obvious proof of abuse must exist. But the high cost of the repair work might play a factor.

possibility 2: the dealership is lying and they feel that they can make more money off of the OP by scamming her into paying MORE for the repairs out of pocket instead of having Toyota do it and get less $$$.

well, considering that the dealer had one of his clerks call the OP and claim to be a Toyota Corp. Rep. my money is on the dealer being a sociopathic scum bag.

That does not solve the problem though. It has been my experience that to get your best chance of a favorable outcome, you need to document every interaction, with names, dates etc. This documentation should be in writing, and a copy sent to the parties involved, and in some cases Toyota Corp., and perhaps your states consumer protection agency.

Best of luck to the OP.

For everyone dumping on the BBB, just know that they do arbitrate disputes. Maybe not the first choice but still an option. Most businesses don't like negative reviews on their site and some will respond. I had an issue with an ambulance company and they did try to help. The company didn't respond though and they have no legal means to do anything so in that respect they aren't much help. Depends on the business and how much they care.

The BBB might not be able to do anything but the FTC might take action with enough complaints

Furthermore, why is the dealership so reluctant to get Toyota corporate involved to the point they fraudulently have a secretary impersonate a corporate regional manager?

If corporate deems that this is covered by warranty, the dealership wins and they get paid.

If corporate sends a representative to inspect the truck or the paperwork and documentation and photographs the dealership submits shows negligence, then the dealership wins and doesn’t have to do a warranty claim and the OP pays out of pocket. furthermore, this is documented as a negligence, not a warranty claim.

No idea why the dealer would have anything to lose from the situation?

Yelp, Google whatever isn't going to try and resolve the OP's issue. Might help future customers. At least with the BBB you "might" get a resolution and it's free to try. Since you seem to not understand how it works, here are some random examples. https://www.bbb.org/us/co/denver/pr...untain-states-toyota-1296-59024652/complaints. Some resolved, some not, but again it's free to try.

This is bad. That little charade goes well beyond more typical dealership shenanigans. But I gotta hand it to the OP for sleuthing out who she was talking to.

I'm worried that the dealer has no intent on repairing the truck under warranty and they're just testing the OP's endurance. I suspect the parts are probably not as hard to get as they claim at this point.

Still wishing you luck and hope this gets resolved quickly.

    Update:

Toyota Corporate is sorting it out, got me a rental car and a apology. It was followed up with a statement saying how lucky I am because i'm the only person she has ever known that had this problem with their sunroof. :|

Sounds like everything is going to be sorted out, sucks that I had to go this route after spending good amount of money for extra warranties to avoid this.

Is the dealer that dropped the $7000 estimate in your lap doing the work?
