I just got my HTC Desire 3 days ago and the battery life is horrible. I have GPS, WIFI, Automatic Sync etc already turned off. The screen brightness is set to low and the time out is a minute. Only thing that syncs automatically is my work email(every 3 min until 8pm then every hour after). Last night I drained the battery completely, charged it while off all night(8 hours) and cut it on this morning and it only had 97%. I opened yahoo messenger and looked at an email, it has been on for 20 min and I have 94%. Can someone please help me.....is my battery messed up? Do I need to go get a new phone? I want to be able to use the phone for the reasons I bought it(surf web, email, etc) but with this battery its gonna be. It is now 3 pm. I have made 3 phone calls(2 min each) sent 10 text, 50 IM's and my email is updating every 30 min. Battery is down to 33%. Someone please help me figure out this battery problem I want to get at least a day or more out of it.

Welcome to the world of smartphones :D

I have a samsung fascinate Android

I charge mine every night and leave it on the charger during the day at work when I'm streaming Pandora (streaming sucks a lot of juice). Check into an extended battery. Also turn off all of the auto update and auto sync stuff for your apps such as facebook and email.

They are all set to manual except for my one work email. I like it to update!

I have an HTC Incredible and my battery wasn't all that good at first. I downloaded the app called advanced task killer and that has helped out alot. I can usually go a whole day of normal use until I have to charge it. Try that out. If that doesn't help at all it might be your battery.

I have the LG Optimus, battery last about a full day of heavy use. My Samsung transform would use a battery evry 8 hours. Had to dump it. I too kave the advanced task killer. I would try lowering your display a bit, that uses most of the battery.

I'm assuming you have Sense UI. Check the settings in friend sync.

What software version are you running? My friend had the same issue when he was on 2.1. He updated to 2.2 and the battery life is way better.

On my incredible, I have 2.2 and I have never needed to charge it during the day. That includes very heavy use..

Aside from other variables, be aware that the myth that batteries do not need to be cycled to improve is just that, a myth. Discharge, charge, discharge, recharge, etc. several times and the battery life should improve. I have an HTC Hero and I stream music, sync e-mail/calendar, make phone calls/texts, etc all day and it is usually almost dead (15% or less) after being used rather thoroughly for ~12-14 hours.

Flash with a Custom ROM, because they often have numerous optimizations made.

I bought a 36 miliamphours battery off the net, the day I bought my HTC droid incredible. It cost about 48 dollars and now my phone lasts for about three days, four if I shut down the BT and navi. Best thing I ever bought.

I would see if your provider has the 2.2 update. I have a feeling that is the problem.
