Maybe because being stranded due to a dead battery is rare, has multiple easy recovery options, and is usually not a calamity.

This November my Tacoma's 5 years since i bought it and its 6th Winter and its still the same battery as the day i picked it up. Its lasted longer then i expected TBH for an OEM battery and ive been debating on putting in a new one this year year Just in case. I dont want to find out my battery is a little weaker then expected if Temps drop to -30 or lower Celsius this year.

I travel to remote areas and being stranded with a dead battery in some areas of Northern Ontario can be rather dangerous. If you live in or near a major city or population centre then not so much. Its easy to get help and a boost.

I also have a 2018 and after a rodent chewed up my main engine wiring harness and had that replaced, the electrical guy said I should consider replacing my battery ASAP as it was reading low.

This was 2 years ago and I've gone through two harsh Colorado winters with no issues. I expect it to last through this winter as well (fortunately I do have a jump box) so I don't plan to replace until it either flat out dies or starts showing signs of significant wear.

Even in winter when it's below 0⁰ mine doesn't have any difficulty starting up so I think I'm good for a while.

I replace batteries and other maintenance items because my family members drive vehicles I am responsible for. Dallas isn’t Canada and our weather in the winter isn’t “usually” life threatening. However, the weather isn’t the only life threatening possibility. I know a lot of you think the same way which is good. Don’t cheap out on batteries, tires, etc.

True - it will run without a battery, however the electric system will be affected. This is not my original theory - I’m not a mechanic -but one that I’ve heard from several people in the industry.
Anecdotally - I replaced the battery on my wife’s Scion before it died and the car did seem to run better.

Well, you have your risk tolerance level and I have mine. I personally choose not to risk my family's safety and security over an old battery, especially when they only cost about $150 to replace. Old batteries will fail and they rarely shit the bed when you are sitting in your driveway. But you do you brother!

    Carry on!

I did grow up in an era where kids didn’t wear bicycle helmets and road in the back of pickups, so I might be suffering from a traumatic brain injury. :)

AZ seems to kill batteries quickly. I ended up buying a battery tester and use it at every oil change. I've only been using it for a little over a year (since our last battery died) so I haven't caught one going bad yet, but hopefully it does.

Usually 5 years is a good time to proactively replace your battery. Or keep a battery jumper pack in the truck in case it dies and you have to jumpstart the truck.

I'm too cheap to replace them early. If it aint broke....

But I do carry a battery pack with me. I'll eventually get a Costco or Walmart battery, as they are the best value & warranty.

Since we’re on the conversation and the fact that my battery (factory OEM on my 19) is starting to sing it’s death song…anybody know what a Toyota battery costs these days out of curiosity?

Dealer is conveniently located and reading the warranty is 84 mo prorated, it makes some sense just to get a stock one. Cent. Florida summers are hard on batteries and I’m surprised it made it 3.5 years. I know I’ll get at least some value out of that 84 month thing guaranteed.

Base your decision on the CCA's and warranty. You are in a cold area compared to many on this forum, so higher CCA's are mandated. Just the same, do not simply go by brand name. How abundant are shops/retailers in your area that distribute each battery that could warranty your choice should you have a problem?
