Incorrect in a general term. Although we don’t know how Rivian battery packs in particular will hold up over time, Tesla has had battery packs last over 300,000 miles without serious degradation. The EV battery life is not measured in years but rather miles driven, just like a ICE engine. Current battery packs last as long as current ICE engines.

 

Like everything in life there isn’t a one size fits all solution for everything. If an EV won’t make the trips you want to do then don’t buy one until the technology is improved enough to do it. All this trip would take is a drive to lunch in a nearby town on one day if you wanted to use an EV for it and not stop on the way up or down.

 

The 110V outlet is 1.44kW. Stopping at a 150-350kW charger previous to your arrival would eliminate a lot of that time.

Like an ICE vehicle if you maintain it properly it will give years of reliable service.

I never considered a 20 minute stop a “vacation” in itself.

 

Not necessarily where I'm from Toyotas especially don't get treated lightly and maintenance isn't the best or even good yet there still reliable and stand time but I guess we will see.

 

It’s interesting you mention that. I personally know two people with two different brand cars where the batteries (hybrids) died after 8-10 years. One was a Honda that used a separate car battery so he just kept driving it like a normal ICE car despite the batteries being dead. But in both cases the ICE lasted significantly longer.

Does Rivian offer an extended warranty? I have 7yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty that Toyota gave me...I know thats an exception but everyone can get it.

 

Look at the charging map that Waiting posted. There are no charging stations in that lakes region. There’s barely even any towns. Stopping in Portland to charge would easily add two hours. I didn’t even drive through there in the first place.

 

It’s not going to be just 20 minutes. What if the chargers are already in use? Getting off the highway to go to a charger ands more driving time and more traffic.

Ya, could be worse, look at the link I posted and see all the issues Europe is having. Broken chargers, multiple pay apps, less than accurate range reporting, we will follow shortly.

 

All fixable issues. But yes the US will encounter the same if not already.

Dunno. They are low rolling resistance tires. They should wear longer than non RRT's.

 

Weight is a big factor in that. EVs are a lot heavier than the same size ICE car.

 

Quick google search shows increased wear and tear due to torque curve from EV, basically instant torque regardless of how soft you are shreds the tires so manufacturers are looking to design EV specific tires.

The article I read actualy said weight had nothing to do with it lol but your not wrong.
