OME 90000 with 2886 Coils... How Can They Be To Stiff?

    Softer springs will be a marked improvement over what you have now. If you can get some softer-valved shocks (like OME 90021) to further smooth out the ride, I'd definitely recommend it. Softer shock valving is actually the whole reason I went for Dobinsons over OME.

    This situation is kind of a head-scratcher. I've gotta wonder if there's some missing front-end weight here. You have a V6, and your bumper doesn't appear to be aluminum... I dunno man, QC issues at OME maybe?

    @Elvota If your intent is to try new coils (which I'm thinking is the next option), try and ask Headstrong Offroad what they think. This is from their website:

    Coil specifications:
    • OME 883: 375mm in height, 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 884: 390mm in height 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 885: 395mm in height 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 886: 402mm in height 660 pound spring rate
    • OME 887: 400mm in height 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 888: 405 mm in height 590 pound spring rate

    V6 4.0, steel bumper (Coastal Offroad), winch (with synthetic line). A few more bits that are definitely heavier than stock. It is a mystery for sure.

    I will try the softer spring first and then look into the 90021 struts. Thanks for the input.

    I am leaning towards the 887 option.

    I actually got the entire OME lift from Headstrong on 3/19. Maybe the 886's they sell are super duper stiff ones.

    Seems like there are four coils (884. 885, 887, 888) that all have the lower spring rate but just vary in coil length. I am not sure how 5mm in coild length one way or the other might effect ride height. In my head, coil spring rate would effect ride height, not the length... especially just 5mm of difference.

    Trying to figure it out. I don't have the budget to just keep replacing coils and struts to experiment.

    5mm is 0.2” which equates to about .4” of lift. My recommendation would be to go with 885’s. It would drop you half an inch based on coil length alone, then a little more due to being softer. So it would drop your front end a little under an inch, which would be ideal compared to where you’re at.

    Can you walk me through understanding this a bit more.

    If a 590lb coil lifts the vehicle 3", why would a longer coil lift it more? Doesn't the spring rate regardless of coil length lift the vehicle the same? The spring rate does all the work, no?

    Wouldn't a longer coil with the same spring rate just rest in a slightly more compressed state? Less room between the coils but exactly the same overall lift?

    A 590 lb coil takes 590 lbs of force to compress it 1”. Let’s say you have 590 lbs of weight and a 10” coil. The 590 lbs will compress it down to 9” and it’ll rest there.

    Take that same 590 lbs and put it on a 5” coil. It’ll compress to 4” and that’s where it’ll rest.

    No problem! I’m happy to help. Sometimes I also like to think in extremes to help conceptualize. Like a 12” coil versus a 12’ coil. Obviously they wouldn’t compress to the same length because of what I explained above.

    I've never rode in a taco with ome that felt good at all. It may be the progressive valving that really is more for low speed articulation.

    I run 725# springs on the 2nd notch on my 5100 and it's smooth as glass. I have a similar weight setup as you. I only met about 2" of lift.

    Maybe try a lighter rated spring first.

    I recognize this thread is like 6 months old, but I stumbled across it looking for something else.

    OP, your spring perches are installed upside down.
    Pull the springs off, flip the perches, put the springs back.
