Was looking over the truck when I got home noticed I have a torn boot on the passenger side on the rack and pinion wondering if I need to replace both boots on it or does the whole rack and pinion need to be replaced.

    The boots are replaceable separately.

Boots are replaceable. The inner clamp can be a real biotch to re-install. Might consider a replacement inner clamp, like a thin hose clamp or something.

That is exactly what needs to be replaced on mine and they quoted me almost 2k out the door for parts and labor when I just need boots replaced crazy what a dealership will do to get in your pocket and I'm a service Technician on boats so I understand what it means but when there is an obvious problem that needs to be addressed be honest and not try to steal money out of your pocket.

The boot is a $20 part. To take the tie rod off and replace the boot it’s about an hour per side. So even $350 would be a reasonable dealer cost IMO, $2k is just highway robbery.
