For anybody interested, that 3350 hood is on sale at weldingstore.com for $299. I'm too cheap to buy one :anonymous:.

    Damn.

Should've bought another 3350 instead

Kind of tempted, but that could be better spent on something else.

Coming back to this post, I have to recommend the 1740 over the 3350 if you're going to use or wear your hood for hours.

The weight difference is already obvious after a few hours of work here using it.

What’s up everyone…may be getting ahead of myself here but I’m curious and like asking questions. I just got done with my first week of welding school at my local state college, it’s a 2 year program so I’ve got a long way to go. Obviously I don’t know much of anything right now. I’ve been stick welding all week and after a few months I’ll move onto MIG.

I’m just curious since in the future I’d like to build stuff for my own truck, what process is used when say you want to weld something onto the frame? Rear shock mounts for example. Since those pieces specifically are taking a lot of force, what goes into welding those onto the frame of our trucks??

Sorry to be ignorant about the subject. I am super excited to continue school though and love seeing progress already!

    Any CWIs in here?

I’ve got 9 months on my work contract and 11 months on my lease and I’m moving again.

Looking for less back breaking welding than what I’m doing now but also to work my way toward CWI/Supervisor/Instructor etc. body can’t take any more heavy stuff.

I’ll look it up but either 2 or 3 more years experience and I qualify to take the exam.

    Any insights would be great.

I always kept my spare hood in my Truck quite a few times some idiot did something dumb or the head gear gave up the ghost.

    Oh!

Forgot to keep you in the loop, especially since you've only encouraged me this entire time!

I got several job offers and ended up choosing what I consider the easiest, best place (with good pay too) to be a welder at.

We do MIG and TIG mild and stainless and primarily build all the cages, electronic frames, and anything associated with conveyor belt systems for packing houses.

This is strange but like anything else things change . This was pre China Flu.

I looked into this and talked to the CWI`s I interacted with knowing them enough over the years to go do lunch etc.

They said the easy way is to find a job in this field if you have the job skills then getting certified is simple . The hard part is landing the job. I had a friend that had the CWI certs but no job in that field. Last I heard he was working at Amazon.

Like anything else it comes down to insurance . Starting your own Company would be expensive and building a name time consuming .

    Good luck !

    Good luck with school!

Based on the thickness and metal type, MIG will be fine for welding shock brackets to your frame. I have built and replaced the entire rear frame on one of my Tacos using a combination of MIG and stick. I used stick for my spring mounts and MIG on the new shock brackets. You could use either. Especially if it's rust free.

Edit: my welding skills, especially stick, were pretty "beginner" when I did this one and everything is still holding strong.

    Goodluck with school!

I remember you posting back in my thread; you're going to love it.

As for your question, just MIG it.

It's the easiest welding process of them all.

Feel like making your own? I have several centers cut out, you just need to source the 1/8" band iron and weld it together yourself.

Here is the one I have.PXL_20220827_145815577.jpg

    Definitely taking the sign!

And sure I'll weld it up.

Doing some cutting for the meanwhile -

    Sounds good.

    PayPal me at:

    kaminco@hotmail.com

    $60.

I'll include a large and small square centers.

    That includes the shipping.

    Thanks for supporting my hobby.

We both know there isn't $8 in material, but the ability to do the work is the big expense of the job.

    Thanks.
    Kirk.

    Edit:

Forgot to ask if there was a color you wanted or for me to just leave it plain?
