That wasn't too bad. 20 mins and a $120 bucks later I'm inspected and renewed.

$120  How many years is that good for? Did you have to get any work done to pass?

Up here in NH, the garage sets the price, we usually pay $30 with a $5 dollar off coupon for the inspection (includes emissions). It’s good for a year.

I've worked on some of those big ol' machines. Some of them you gotta climb in to repair them. Full of old coolant and chips. Yea I got outta that one as quick as I could and went back to the more gravy conveyor systems

It's been so long ago (to me anyways) wasn't this the one I suggested the rear wheel bearing was bad? Damn my memory is shot! :annoyed:

Got the surface grinder fired up this morning. Taking some 440C stainless to final thickness before milling.

Could have been! I was hoping the rears weren’t the case, they’re more of a pain than the front, and I had to buy that wheel bearing puller tool and modify it to fit my press. And the wheel speed sensor broke when I was trying to take it out. So it’s exactly as much fun as you’d think!:rofl::rofl:

Sometimes jobs don’t go as planned. I’ve got to take this piece of scrap down a bit to use as a press tool to put my rear end back together. When I was at UMO I pulled 4 4’ x 1.5x3 off cuts out of the dumpster. Score!!

What's with the rod instead of clamping the work piece directly? Limiting the jaw cam?

It is an out of square piece, so the rod will allow the vice to hold the work square to one side while I square the top, then once I flip the work over I should be able to mill the other side square relative to the other two.
Keep in mind, I’m a YouTube taught machinist, in principle I know how this works, I may have explained it incorrectly. But it should keep this part square enough to press my axle back into the bearing.
Also, I think this might be a chunk of 4140 which seems like a waste to use for a press blank, but you gotta pee with the wang ya got.
