I've been doing home electrical work myself for 30 years. I don't cheap out on parts. It's not as intimidating as one might think but you have to get it right the first time.

Don't really have plans for an EV , but my son is an electrician. Already ran service to my garage, so I guess he would just have to make it work for an EV hookup

It’s sucks that the EVs cost so much more upfront that these free charges don’t even really help save money on vehicle ownership.

Some level 2 (220v) chargers simply plug into the wall outlet rather than being hardwired which makes it easy.

There are a number of EVs available for less than the average price of a new vehicle and for less than a Tacoma. The high end fancy stuff isn’t cheap for sure but basic commuters and family cars aren’t bad.

There sure are a lot of the same models with verying trims and battery configurations.

Seems like unnecessary cost for both the manufacturer and consumer. Can't be good in the long run. For example, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, GEO, Saturn, Mercury, and Scion.

Every manufacturer is like that, it’s nothing special for EVs only.

Nothing new, seems to be greater variation among the EV vehicles.

Most buyers are going to want the battery with the greatest range, even if they don't care about performance numbers. Engine displacement is wgat is going to effect your ICE range, but you can always add fuel, does not matter if it's a 3cyl GEO Metro, or a 16cyl Bugatti Veyron. Their range is limitless.

Then there's the same exact models that are different because the wheel size changes by an inch.

So many variables, and this early in the game. I see the future of EVs becoming less diverse when it comes to options.

How do people run out of gas and get stuck on the side of the road then?

    Operator error.

Can't fault the machine. I see people run out of gas all the time on the beltway. There's an exit every 1/2 mile, and at least one gas station with in a 1/4 mile of those exits.

The same is true of an EV driver that gets stranded. Most EVs have loads of notifications pop up on the dash letting you know that you are digging yourself into a hole too.

Yes you are right. EV range is limited to it's battery capacity. Where an ICE propelled vehicle range is limitless.

Range is only mentioned when discussing EVs. The word RANGE has never been mentioned when discussing ICVs. Why? Could you imagine being the dumbass that asks what kind of range an LS1 gets? That's not even a question that can be answered.

ICE vehicles do not have limitless range. Just like an EV you have to stop and refuel, the difference is just the time it takes to do so. The distance between stops is no different in most cases.

Range is always a concern with any vehicle. Just because I can get easy and fast gas with a ICE vehicle doesn’t mean that the range is not a factor. You still need to know how far you can drive on a tank, how towing, carrying a heavy load or head winds affect that and change the planned fuel stops when driving a longer distance. Those factors are not exclusive to EVs.

It's always been MPG and fuel economy with ICE. No body has ever thought about an automobile's range. Sure people think how far a tank of fuel will get them, but not how far the vehicle can go.

Yes, the ICE vehicle has a limitless range as long as there is a viable supply of fuel.

Having viable supply of electricity does not guarantee you can rechage an EV battery.

I’ve always thought about an automobile’s range. Not to say that I do things only to increase the range, quite the opposite.

Are you reading what you type? An ICE vehicle has limitless range as long as there is fuel but an EV doesn’t have limitless range as long as there is electricity (fuel)? That is absolute nonsense. The difference is solely the speed at which the vehicle can be refueled.

How far a tank of gas goes is literally the definition of vehicle range. The relationship between MPG, tank capacity and range is exactly the same as the relationship between MPKWH, battery capacity and range.

ICE vehicle range is limitless, look at all the million mile Toyotas, look at the amount of semi trucks that have been on the road since 1956.

EVs get what a range of 300 miles per charge if that? You can't carry spare batteries, or electricity.
