Morning MD! Have to redo the alignment Firestone did yesterday. I now know that my tires will rub bad at 2.5 caster… which was the bottom specs on the sheet I gave them and they matched. Can’t be angry at them doing what I asked lol

I gotta get mine realigned in the next week or two also. I’m adding the 1/2” shim from Headstrong off road under my AAL. Even with my Icon AAL the truck still squats a tiny bit if you look at it really closely. It drives me crazy lol

I assume an alignment would be in order afterwards? although I guess maybe it’s not necessary.

 

I think if you’re leaving the front alone you’re good but if it’s been a while it might not be a bad thing to have checked. I’m 99% sure that nothing can be done in the back.

Thanks for the info! Yeah I’m not touching the front but it has been a while since my last alignment and I’ve got some long road trips coming up. So I’ll probably have it done anyway.

Nah, I don’t have any vibrations fortunately. This isn’t one of the angled shims, it’s basically just a 1/2” block that goes where the factory overload spring used to be…raises the back up 1/2” so im not driving around looking silly lol

 

“Fixed” my alignment… well it does not rub anymore but the whee isn’t straight when driving. That said, it looks like the wheels/tires are good. I’ll bring it back and ask them for a toe and go to get that part right and hopefully be good.

I did try to adjust the steering tie rods to get them to match the wheel but knowing the sensitivity of the truck doing alignments with the electronics I didn’t want to screw around with something I’m not sure would be ok in the end.

No sir, no alignment needed in rear. Only front gets alignment. One thing you will want to be careful with is the driveshaft angle… don’t want to let rear diff rotate any while installing the shims. Just do one side at a time, and the side you are not working on should hold everything in place. Should be fairly painless job with simple hand tools and a floor jack.

That saves me a lot of time because I was gonna have to squeeze in an alignment before we go on our next road trip.

So no work to the front=no alignment needed. Good to know.

 

I think i saw a couple options on FB marketplace

I’ve been searching for months for a Tonneau cover for my 6ft bed. The one I have is 8 years old and I dont want to spend $900 on a new one. Thats insane for a piece of vinyl and some aluminum. Or some plastic and aluminum.

 

@hyrule_trd metal mechanics by the college is great for alignments. Their guys are into trucks and will understand what you want.
