The "range" of this discussion has gone too far for me. My energy reserves are low, my tank is empty, and I can't go on any further.

I'm going to go drive my truck for who knows how long.... Because I have no idea what kind of range I can get to the internal combustiveness of the engine and the gassyness of the tank. But I don't worry.... It says Unlimited on it somewhere.

Come on man. No one is buying an Audi to save on their commute.

What does that have to do with savings on a commute? Those are the simple facts if someone were to buy the Q4 EV vs the comparable gas Q5. They both cost about the same as a Tacoma and are standard everyday family and work vehicles for a lot of folks.

I've never heard anyone talk about how far their vehicle can go. Never read an aoutomotive publication where the topic was range. Never seen an automotive broadcast where anyone was talking about range.

The topic was non existant before EVs.

Have you ever had a conversation with someone about the range of your gas powered motor car?

No. Anybody in the room would walk out if you started talking about how far your gas powered car can travel.

You can also buy a Lamborghini Urus instead of an Audi e tron.

Done it many times actually, usually when talking about offroad trips or long distance trips. It's been a topic of discussion on long cross country trips with someone else, like back when my ex-wife drove a Jetta TDI that would get 550 miles on a tank and my supercharged V6 GTI would only do about 250 miles.

I ignored him long ago. He makes stuff up. He just trolls EV threads. He has no clue what he’s talking about.

I think that's called planning, and you don't really need to discuss that with anyone else to come to a conclusion.

It's not a topic that regularly comes up when discussing motor vehicles.

The only people that don’t know the range of their cars are the people that never go on a road trip.

Range isn't even listed on the Monroney label, hell the mpgs are a guesstimate by the epa.

The majority of the car buying public aren't concerned with their ICE vehicle range, because it's only limited by their access to fossil fuels. Which is unlimited provided they have the funds to purchase fuel... Making it unlimited!

Compton gas stations were giving away free gas, and the city of Chicago was giving out free fuel cards.

You must be pretty young . It is not that long ago that gas stations were not open 24 hours a day and did not take credit cards at the pump. If anyone traveled at night they had to know if they could go far enough to reach their destination with the gas in the tank. We all knew how far we could get with our vehicles .

Just got back from Overland Expo, more Tacomas than you could count, tons of Unimogs...two Rivians.

Didn't see a single person so much as pause to look at them.

Gas stations that close at 9pm is still a reality where I live. The distance between the ones that are open 24 hours isn't trivial either.

If you don't know how far you can drive on a tank of gas you're an idiot. Or you're just boring and never go anywhere outside of a city.

You could almost buy a Rivian with the cost of all the lights strapped on those trucks. I'd probably pay more attention to some Unimogs than a Rivian but they are entirely different tools for different jobs.

What a waste. You should have checked all of the cool new products and the Tacomas and the Unimogs. That’s why everyone else went.

To be fair there was a Ridgeline there too in the Honda tent. No one looked at that either, but the Honda staff was very, very nice.

If nothings open there's no where to go.

People use to travel the country on horse back and by covered wagon. They probably didn't even have a map, or know how to read.
