I think my days are numbered where I'm at and frankly I really dont care. This companies treatment of their drivers sucks frankly and I'm tired of it. This has turned into just another shitty job, I can get another one of those anywhere.
So Friday I do 9 hours, park my truck and complete my daily trip log, lock my truck and turn in my log to the drop box. I'm walking out the door and have my lunch bag over my shoulder and my phone rings, it's my boss. I need you to go back to where you just left and pick up 2 more bins of hot parts, everything is hot now. So I said are you kidding me!!! Every fucking Friday you do this to me!!! She said please dont swear the owner is on the other line, lmfao! She cusses like a truck driver so shes no virgin. So she tells the owner I'm already back at the yard and that I could leave. And that was the end of any further conversation. I wonder what's going to happen Monday? Dont really care, everyone is hiring drivers. Might just be time for a change. My give a shit is turned off but my go fuck yourself is fully functional!

 

Oh boy, been down that road soooo many times. Nobody gives a shit about drivers, they still have the, your a dime a dozen mentality. Every job has its bs, just depends on how much you want to put up with, and only you can answer that question. If they think there’s a driver shortage now, just wait a few more years when a shitload of guys retire, or just say screw it. It’s not worth it out here. Got over 41 years in this jacked up industry, can’t wait until I can be done, thought for awhile I’d like to make 50 years, kind of a personal goal, but not anymore. Do it! I switched jobs a year ago and never looked back (except to realize how fucked-up the old employer was/is). It was always 13+ hours, dispatch was always trying to find a way to fuck me over. The last straw was when I cut my finger (pretty badly) trying to get back on the road after some dumbass rear ended me in a freak late-spring snow squall. When I called dispatch, the first thing out of his mouth was: you gonna make the rest of your pickups? Not: you OK? Then he had the balls to ask if I'd go 40 miles out of my way to make one more (hour long) pickup on the way in (I was 1:45 out). He wouldn't take no, so I quit arguing with him, knowing the door wasn't going to hit him in the ass in 5 minutes. As soon as he was gone, I called 2nd shift and said: There's no fucking way I'm making that stop on the way in, I'm going to the ER and I won't be in tomorrow as I'm sure I'll be on prescription painkillers and unfit to drive. The next morning, dispatch called and asked real snotty if I was going to come in and why I didn't call to tell them. After the follow-up appointment that afternoon, my boss was all pissed off that the Dr put me on no work restriction for 10 days to make sure I didn't tear the stitches...even called the Dr to try to get her to change the order! Fuck them! Then they were surprised when I put my notice in.

I'm now at Old Dominion and love every minute. Great people to work with/for. Respect their employees! Wish I had made the switch 2 years earlier when the opportunity was first presented to me.

 

I gave up Saturdays 8 years ago! Won't do them any more (well, we don't run on Saturdays anyway).

 

Are you a linehaul driver at OD?

 

No, peddle. You run your ass off while you're working, but the days rarely run more than 10hrs. Don't often work more than 45/week.

 

When I applied @ OD, I also applied at R&L, Dayton and FedEx. Never heard from Fedex or R&L, Dayton interviewed me but gave me the cold shoulder when they found out I was over 60. Their loss...

Where did my weekend go?

 

I worked for Dayton for 6 months. I spent more time in a straight box truck manually loading and unloading freight. I hired in for tractor trailer. I was 60 at the time and they kept putting me in that straight truck and doing heavy manual labor. Guys that hired in after me and where half my age didn't have to do it. So one day I came in to work, they gave me my dispatch and it was straight truck again, I threw the paperwork back in the window and gave em the finger and said fuck you! I quit! That felt really good, lol. I struggled to even get 40 hours there.
I don't want to work for a trucking company, but rather a company with trucks. That's what I have now but they still treat us like crap.
Like I said before, there is no respect for drivers in this industry and most of the pay sucks!
Can I make it another 5 years?............

 

Well I go in to work this morning wondering if my boss is even going to try and blow sunshine in my ear. They won't fire me yet because a driver is going on vacation the week after memorial day and that would only leave them with 2 out of 4 drivers.
One day at a time...............but I'm looking elsewhere.

 

I couldn’t put that any better. That’s mostly what my job search is currently, just looking for a job that requires a CDL.

Well no talking to today, lol. Boss must know I'm pissed. Plus like I said she needs me to cover for a driver off for vacation. But I let her head ass kisser know I'm tired of her crap and ready to quit. I know that'll get back to her for sure.
It's not about winning but how you play the game. Lmao.
