    Greetings,

Today I was swapping out the floor mats in my new-to-me 2020 OR (my 1st Taco), and found this slim box with red & green lights hanging under the steering wheel. No visible markings (maybe under the velcro) and I pulled it out as far as I could (not much slack). Ideas? Concerns?

Apologies as I know something similar has been asked previously but what I came across wasn't on point. If I've missed a relevant thread, please kindly point me that way.

    Much Appreciated!IMG_9146.jpg IMG_9147.jpg IMG_9148.jpg

Dealer installed tracker. It is cheaper for them to buy them in bulk and install on every vehicle rather than pay to have a vehicle hunted down when the buyer stops paying.
Pull the Velcro off to see what's under it. You'll probably find a sticker with model number and other info.

Yep, I'm going to guess @jjsooner or the first N owners has/had a loan and the dealer/financier required a tracker on the truck due to high liability.

There are a ton of threads about this. There should probably be a sticky or a list of required threads to read when new users sign up for accounts.

    * What is the biggest tire/wheel/spacer/spacer lift/mud terrain will fit?
    * What is this black box under my dash?
    * Why is my 3rd brake light leaking?
    * Why is my engine smoking when driving on an incline?

    and so on.

@windsor is right. Its a dealer installed tracking device. I found one of these on a car I bought from a dealer. It was connected to a piggy back connector on the OBD port. Took it out as soon as I found out what it was.

For some reason, I thought my cell phone add on module looked like that. For remote start and what not. Maybe @N2DesignsInc ??

EDIT - I deleted my post with the pics of all the specifics on what turned out to be a gps tracker. Again, thanks for the prompt responses and proper newbie hazing.

I just found that on my 2019 SR5 and was about to make a post asking about it. It’s weird since they supposedly removed the anti theft “package” from the truck when I purchased it.

I would never be comfortable with the idea that a dealer ship has a tracking device on my personal vehicle. Especially if they don’t tell you about it

Looks like my remote start- cell start module. Same spot also.

I'm still poking around for a 'benevolent' reason for it to be there - like remote start (which works with the fob) and/or Toyota Connect. But its doubtful. The FCC id lookup pointed to GPS tracker.

I'd go back to the dealership and drop it on the gm's desk.

I found one inside of the underhood relay junction box when I was diagnosing my niece's car. She didn't have a loan for the car so it was probably from a PO. Had to google the model to see what it was and I promptly removed it.

That would entail paying some stereo shop some labor to remove it, and the dealer wouldn't pay any more money than it has to. Usually when you don't opt for the anti-theft package, it just means the dealer doesn't activate the tracking subscription - the tracker has its own SIM card and transmits over the cellular network, so the dealer incurs a subscription fee if it's active.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's been a few years since I installed mine. This is from their website, but I'm 50/50 on if mine looks like this or OP's.

Dude... you hit the jackpot. Pretty sure that's the phone module for the N2 Designs remote start module. There are two parts. One module is the remote start, it's the photo in my post above. The module you're showing, is the cell phone module. I have one and pay ~$30/yr for remote start anywhere the truck has cellular signal.

That's what it is but its a generic module. So it can be used for remote start or to track via gps.
