Had to change out a CV on the 03 corolla over the weekend. That sucker didn't want to move. I even tried putting an 8 ft piece of pipe on the end of my 3' breaker bar and the pipe bent all the way to the ceiling and the axle nut never budged!
I finally got it off after like 25 hits with the air impact. Every time my pancake compressor filled up I'd hit it till empty, rinse and repeat. Drenched the thing in PB Blaster too. Tried hammering it with a sledge to try to shock it and that didn't do anything either. Was making my electric impact spark so I had to break out the air one. I think the air impact is toast now though. I'm sure it wasn't easy on it not moving that many ugga duggas.

New axle + nut fought it's way on too, I think they cut the threads thick to prevent the nut backing off....

One noise less on the rolla now. I think the passenger bearing is toast too.

Should know by 1300 but sounding like its rolling back, again. Almost worst case scenario for my shop. Back like a nightmare.

 

Does a rollback mean sitting around waiting, or more workload?

 

Because you'll have to support the hydrazine detanking?

 

Yikes. Sounds like October at the earliest…

A ton more work. Offloading hydrazine from aft skirts is 7 guys on both shifts working around the clock for 24-48 hours. We have equipment that lives on the ML during regular work times that would get re-deployed. All I know is I'm putting in my Thanksgiving vacation for Nc hunting today. This fall just got a lot busier.

 

It’s constantly being replaced. That’s the tightest curve in Western Canada & with trains one after another it just plain wears out.

 

You could finger thread it till about half the nut was on, then it was stuck like a pig all the way on. I triple checked it to make sure I wasn't crazy.

 

Did it have a tab to bend over or just the nut?

 

Hey now thats my bridge. That is the Indian River bridge crossing from Merritt Island to Cocoa. 5 mins from my house.

 

I do have love for old Chevy Trucks! But my brother sent me pictures of a one ton dually 4x4 he spotted in Oregon, mid 70's 454 engine, yellow in color. I really would have liked to have that truck and if I recall the price was right at $4,500.00 but probably would have to hawk the farm for gas to get it home.
This was over a year ago and I've deleted pictures.

 

Its got a spot in the middle you hammer into the keyway in the shaft. But the one I took off wasn't even scratched let alone hammered in.
Once I had the new one seated I hammered it in.

 

Did you chase the spindle threads?
