Is this your ace in the hole argument?

They can just charge it on days that don't fit in range. Same as I gas up. Sure it's a bit more inconvenient but it's not always this impossible thing. I'll concede that there are areas and timelines where charging is impossible but most understand that and factor that in to their use and purchases.

Again... If it doesn't work just don't buy one. Simple.

Just Stop. How has a comment on vehicle cost turned into this nonsense?

It is ridiculous. You can’t seem to grasp the concept of how to not buy an EV if it doesn’t fit with your individual needs.

I was just responding to your questions. If you don't want answers don't ask the questions ‍¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There won’t be an option in the not to distant future. It’s more the EV people constantly try to prove how great they are and bending reality that drives me crazy.

Very cool tech for sure but they are wearing rose colored EV glasses for sure. Has anyone mentioned that Ford raised the EV cost $8500 recently which negates the $7500 tax credit? Kind of a red flag if you have to incentivize & decept people on a purchase IMO. But hey a sucker is born everyday!

Oh totally agree, especially since all my shit has been long been paid for. Yeah, no one is saving the planet…we are fucked no matter what. When these things go mainstream, just imagine how much more raping of the planet will done. Want to stop the effects of humans on the planet…we would have to go extinct.

Wouldn’t mind an EV because I have grown to hate going the gas station, there about every week and a half, once a week during dirt bike riding season. Be so nice just to charge it at home. Be even better if I didn’t have to commute at all, ya know.

I dunno, be nice to have one for commuting and another specifically for road tripping/camping. But yeah can’t justify the expense doing only 4-5 camping trips a year. So the Taco has to be the one do-it-all vehicle. It’s the ultimate “doesn’t do any one thing great, compromise” vehicle.

This is closer to the answer than ICE vs EV.

I try to ride my bike for all my in town errands and my commute to work. It won't save the world but at least get me or you an extra day. It's free as well. I don't expect everyone to be able to do that though.

Cutting back on energy usage, of any kind, would be better.

I'd rather take efficient public transport most of the time over any vehicle if it was an option. Travelling in Europe is incredible. I'd rather see infrastructure like that pushed and funded vs electric cars.

That will definitely happen here if we switch to using nuclear and our rivers dry up, which is what is happening in France.

My wife has it good, we live only 1.5 miles from her work. When I lived in Tucson, rode my bicycle to work…but since we moved, now have a lame commute. Was talked into working in the city, rather than the town we live in. That was a mistake. Would love to work from home, have been trying to figure that one out for years, but none of my attempts have panned out. After the lock down did move my shop, so I am saving roughly 10K miles a year, but it could be better. Certainly could move closer to the house…but since it is clientele based business would loose majority of my customers.

And honestly rather just be retired… lol!

My wife is a surgeon so she'll never work from home. There's no transit where I am but even when we were in cities it mostly wouldn't work for her. Waiting on an EV to charge in the middle of the night when she's on call isn't a good option either.

I mostly work from home for my day job but I'm also a property manager so I still need a truck. I considered a Lighting but the price and availability were definitely a deterrent. We also tow a camper so need at least on gas vehicle for now.

It's certainly not lost on me that EVs aren't perfect but they're advancing quickly. We live in a world now where we may need to start making concessions. One of them may be that it takes a little longer to "fuel" up. In the grand scheme of things that's not a huge deal.

None of us here have the answers in what technology or infrastructure will exist in the next few decades.

Gas vehicles will likely be around for a long time yet, however, barring something totally wild happening. So those that want to ski and go to the beach will still be able to do that if there's still snow and the ocean isn't too angry.

Dang, if only that was the case. Now lets look at reality... oh dang, 50% of their electricity is derived from oil & gas. Not lookin' good for your argument there Cotton.

50% is obviously most of it, so I guess that if half of something disappeared the other half wouldn’t go up in value.

I've had my R1T for about 3 months now and so far it's been great. I can say for sure it's not the best truck to rate for efficiency. I'd rather drive my Prius if I'm going for that. For comparison the R1T takes twice as much kW to do what a Model Y would do. Versus my 3rd gen DCLB that I sold the R1T cab is a little longer and wider. My kids have more room in the back which is what I was going for. Initially I was going to by the new gen Tundra but personally it was too big for me to drive daily. The acceleration is what I love about it. Pressing on the pedal to achieve what you want to do feels effortless. The air suspension needs work though. It's a heavy truck and you can feel it. It's kind of like when you have a big load in the bed and the back just slowly bounces up and down. You can stiffen the air ride but it ends up being too rigid.

Anyway, lots of comparisons to be made vs the Tacoma so feel free to ask and I'll do my best.

No but we know what the current status of our infrastructure is and it is not set up or designed for the loading of electric vehicles onto it en masse. Hybrids make more sense than pure EV's IMO. Also will depend on how much weather modification i.e. 'climate change' continues on which could affect solar efficiencies for example. Bit of a digression but all to make us think.

I have seen zero bending of reality in this thread. In fact it’s been pretty straightforward the whole time representing the limitations of the current EVs. By the time we are all forced to accept EVs I don’t think the range and charging discussion will be an issue.

I do not know what you guess as I am not a mind reader. I can tell you though that nuclear is underrated and hydroelectric is never going away so what was your point again?
