The gang solves the gas crisis! Remember it like it was yesterday.

My wife has been thinking about getting one for her business vehicle. The problem is it costs so much more than the regular gas version that you don’t save anything in the long run plus it’s more complex with more things to break. It really comes down to what tax rebates will be available at the time.

Right now there is demand, is there enough demand that Ford needs an BE?

I don't think so, but Ford didn't want to lose market share to Rivian, and more importantly be the 1st company to bring a BE pick up to market, and be the 1st legacy manufacturer to bring a BE truck to market. Ford has beaten every other manufacturer in the BE truck market place.

I don't believe the Lightning is going away as long as Ford is in business, and there is market space for BE trucks.

The F-150 diesel didn't live that long.

None of this means that the Lighting can't lose popularity in the market, which I fully believe it will, once the BE hype wears off.

So, Ford didn’t want to lose sales to Rivian that delivered their first customer R1Ts late 2021 so they came out with the Ford Lightning that they first delivered in late May 2022 so that they could be the first BE pick up to market? Did I get it all?

I think they have both delivered similar amounts of trucks. It will be interesting to see who sells more in a couple years. I bet Ford dominates by a large margin.

I’d expect the same in a business they’ve dominated for years.

    Whose stock price is higher.

How many R1Ts did Rivian deliver in 2021?

Sounds like the late 21 deliveries were for publicity and sourcing revenue.

    Which company is older?

First customer deliveries are first customer deliveries. Just because you don’t like that it happened doesn’t mean that it didn’t.

How often do you guys with EVs have problems with public chargers? It seems like every video I watch on TFL they have nothing but trouble with the charging stations. They always seem to be either broken, won’t connect with the car or keep shutting off. That would drive me crazy.

In my experience if a charger is down the next one to it usually works. I live in CA and there's a multitude of chargers available so I think it really depends on the state. I can see how people would get annoyed though. Going on a long road trip and relying on the 1 or 2 chargers along the way and they don't work. Personally I would never take that chance.

A bunch of people own ICE cars that would also make zero sense to take in the snow, or load up with gear to go camping, etc. You're try to get an EV to cover every possible scenario while saying an ICE vehicle can cover every single scenario to show they don't work. You're trying to compare apples to rhinos with your arguments.

Not every ICE vehicle is up for every task, just like not every BEV is up to every task.

You need to figure out what vehicle fits your lifestyle and buy that. Once you've figured out what your needs are you can then see if a BEV or ICE vehicle makes sense.

My wife commutes 30-50 miles each way to where she is consulting. A BEV makes perfect sense for that. Could that also the same car we're going to take on a family road trip to Montana? Probably not based on what it could carry in terms of gear.

Their energy costs are a direct result of the sanctions on Russia over Ukraine and their reliance on natural gas from Russia. You can't look at a spike and say that's the normal cost of business without looking at the underlying reasons.

I’m not trying to have an EV work in any scenario except for getting from basic places without needing to stop for 40 min to recharge. Also FYI you don’t need any purpose built vehicle to go camping or drive in snow. You can do it in a Corolla if that’s what you own.

Depends on where your journey takes you. Just the way things are right now with battery and charging technologies in BEV's. If stopping to charge is an issue you're not a candidate for an EV.
