Opened up the failed OEM wheel cylinder out of curiosity. Two witness marks in the cylinder bore observed on the failed end. Couldn't feel anything running my fingernail across them, so groove/step depth is less than .005".



Not sure if this was enough to destroy the piston seal, but the "good" side had a completely smooth bore with no witness marks:

 

bet that can be honed out and be good as new again. wonder if they even sell the cups and seals anymore

edit: just spent some time looking its not worth it...

 

^Toyota doesn't have P/Ns for the detail components in the wheel cylinder assembly. In any case, with OEM-equivalent cylinders from Advics going for $21, it's easy to spend more on consumables if you try to rebuild one. This model is compatible with Tacomas and Toyota pickups going back to 1978, so there's massive economy of scale at work.

 

there is something to be said for simplicity. this is not it. imagine this thing breaking on the trail... that being said, its a great build. very nice machine

Pretty interesting. The front end is almost identical to @Norilsk without the control arms. Has the tundra rack, jd pivots. Essentially his truck is a cheaper, shittier version

I would avoid MT tread patterns in our climate, especially going into fall and winter. Lack of siping tends to turn them into skates on water and slush.

Are your stockers worn out? If you can wait for backorders, get a skinny 33" tire in 255/85-16.
