Did this problem start before or after the previous owner replaced the fuel pump?

Previous Owner dealt with problem. Changed fuel pump and filter. I bought truck off of him about 1 month later (made him offer on the spot, he accepted). I then changed purge valve. No codes. Still no idea what could be wrong :(

I have never worked on a vehicle with a Check Engine Light on and no codes stored. I would still say first to track down the reason for the light on. Maybe the scanners used don't support your vehicle or don't read enhanced codes. If you want to ignore the light for now, you can temporarily block off the vac line from the purge valve to the engine. Doing so will remove any chance of excess fuel vapors from being sucked into the engine and isolate if it is a problem in the purge system. But be warned, doing this for an extended period will cause the charcoal canister to become saturated, and it may not recover when you find the actual problem. Cheers

    Thank you for the reply.

maybe I’m confused myself. I believe the light comes on anyways when I turn key right? Like when all the rights come on right before engine starts. I think that is what is happening in terms of CIL. It’s never on otherwise. I think I need to go to Toyota aka stealership :(

    thank you for the reply.
Only after filling up once it clicks one time. Never any other starting issues besides that. I’ve almost filled up from almost empty, half tanks. But once it fills up to that click, it doesn’t start up right away after that. Takes 1-2 cranks then starts up right away. One day I literally started truck on/off 10-12 times, no issues. But only after filling up all the way does it not want to start on the first time

Yes, the light comes on when you first turn the ignition key. This is a bulb check function. So engine running and no check engine light illuminated, good. Now, correct me if I am wrong- After fueling, engine cranks normally but wont start. Wait ~ 1 minute and it starts. Fuel pump replaced by previous owner. Ok. Before blocking off the purge line in my previous response try this. Next time it happens after refueling, immediately press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold there. This is a "clear flood" signal sent to the computer. Then crank the engine. If it starts release the pedal. Then you know its a flooding condition. We can go from there. Cheers

Thank you so much for this.
I will try this and keep you posted.
If it is a flooding condition, what part needs to be replaced? Thank you!!

No fair, you quoted me as I was deleting my post since it was a half-baked idea. You can alway try what I had stated and see if it does anything.

The Tacoma of this vintage does not have a clear flood mode.

If you determine it is a flooding condition, then I would go back to blocking off the purge valve -to- engine vac hose. Just pull the vac hose off the intake port and cap off the port so you don't have a vac leak. This is the only hose used by the purge system to draw fuel vapors into the engine. If this stops the flooding then we need to dig deeper into the purge system. Also, you said you replaced the purge valve? Are all the hoses hooked up correctly? There should be a hose diagram under the hood. Just a thought. Cheers

Pictures of what was asked already, and pictures of the purge valve you installed. These might help.

Also, was the purge valve, fuel pump and fuel filter replaced with OEM parts?

I will get you pic in an hour or so.

Replied to you accidentally in that other post but I will say it again. Don’t believe previous owner changed pump and filter to OEM. Purge Valve was straight from Toyota Parts
