Currently running siped 235/85/16 DuraTracs but thinking of going to Toyo 255/85/16. Anyone have any experience with getting them siped and their performance on ice? I know they won't be Blizzak's on ice and I know my DuraTracs aren't Blizzaks on ice. But they are a hell of a lot better than stock.

Can anyone verify if the 255/85/16 will fit in the stock location under the bed of a first gen?

Great, thanks! Which tires are you using? I have some ST MAXX being delivered to the local store for me to try on for fitment. The sales person was trying to talk me into the cheaper Nitto Recon Grapplers.

I have Coops at the moment, great tire. You’re going to have to smack the arms that hold the spare a few times but it’ll fit

Nope. It’s a bit tight to the leaf springs
    I’m also on 4runner wheels :D

Oh, sweet. Same wheels, same tires. Love it. Thanks for posting. Did you replace those Falkens with the Coopers?

You’re welcome. I did the reverse actually, happened across a good deal for the Falkens so I decided to try them

I think a digressive shock works better with a softer tire that can do more of the work absorbing the small bumps.

Progressive shocks will feel better with E load tires as the tire won’t be flexing as much the progressives will cancel that out by moving a lot more than digressive.

No, actually it does not. I'm familiar with that paper and it is one of the main reasons I opted for skinnies on my truck. That white paper you reference is about TRACTION. My comment was 100% targeted at COMFORT and was meant to have zero opinion regarding any sort of performance in regards to traction differences. My comment was also not about tire width, it was about sidewall size.

The OP was asking about changing tires to help improve ride comfort. His postulation was that by going up to a 33" from a 31.5" that he'd be improving comfort due to extra sidewall. Assuming the same exact tire but in two sizes, sure, you may feel a little more squish. But probably not much.

My point is that even by increasing sidewall size if he goes up to a stiff LT tire it will likely be more harsh of a ride compared to his smaller sidewall SL rated tires.

In fact, I have experienced this same thing on my truck. Went from 265/75R16 Wildpeak SL's to 255/85/R16 Geolandar LT mud terrain tires. Sidewall increased but so did stiffness and ride quality suffered.
