@Rod03 In your experience do you think the delivery window of 9/5 - 9/14 will shrink?

At this point I have seen all kinds of unusual stuff, it could but not sure. Every model is suffering on the logistics side, we have a lot of incoming units that are taking longer than usual.

Well, I have been officially released from this thread since I took delivery of my new '22 Limited yesterday. This has been unlike any other "car-buying" experience I've ever had, to say the least. I'm glad I waited. It's replacing my old "warhorse" F-150 Off Road with 1/4 Million and although it has some big shoes to fill, I know it will handle them capably. During this seven (7) month wait when I put $ down way back in January, my dealer (and a couple other dealers further away) offered some models that just weren't what I wanted. I know this decision pushed my timeline, but I'm glad I waited and got the EXACT truck I wanted. I also know that this doesn't always work out for some folks, and sometimes you have to adjust. I get it, and that's OK.
A special "Thanks" goes to @Rod03 who tirelessly helped me and so many others with situation awareness and status. I bet he's having to build a new warehouse to handle all the bevvies donated to him by now. :D And thanks to the others who contributed with their knowledge and tips to help the rest of us make sense of the delays. I really enjoy TW and expect to learn a lot. So, I say farewell as I file my "How Long Did You Have To Wait..." Graduation Certificate in the archives. Best wishes to all of you.

    JAN - Deposit
MAY 27 - Allocation and Temp VIN
JUN 26 - Build Date, Baja, CA, MEX
    JUN 28 - Perm VIN
JUL 26 - Port Options Install (San Diego)
JUL 27 - Notified by Dealer of Step Bar Changes at Port (Consequent delay)
AUG 4 - Notified by Dealer of Arrival date 8-13 AUG. (Didn't happen)
AUG 13 - Notified by Dealer Arrival Date now 15-23 AUG (Didn't happen)
AUG 23 - Notified by Dealer Arrival Date 23-28 AUG
AUG 29 - Notified by Dealer Tacoma Arrived. Dealer prepped vehicle immediately
AUG 30 - Took Delivery and Happy, Happy Happy
Honestly, my Dealer and Sales guy have been super...no complaints. They kept me informed as best they could. Seven months and two days...but, who's counting? LOL

Last thing and I'll shut up: Seems that some driver at the Port Options Install Department was guilty of "Harsh Cornering" as signified by my Toyota App "Drive Pulse & Trips" feature. Check out the screenshot. Those folks might need to simmer down as they exit onto the adjacent street!

Take care everyone and be safe.

Please tell me the railroad unions are not going to strike Sept 16th. My truck was put on the rail Aug 22 and arrival is suppose to be Sept 9 then delivered to dealership by the 14th. Does anyone know if truckers could or would take the vehicles from the rails and deliver if they do strike?

Sept-16? Mine is ‘likely’ to hit the rail yard on the 10th and move to a truck 11th-16th. Maybe I’ll just make it. Nervous, as I’m booking a flight soon because the prices skyrocket if I wait last minute.

    .
I understand, but honestly, we do not live in normal times. I'm not sure how many sales people are making a good living at the moment. Perhaps the used car/truck sales people... But if you are new car/truck, or say you are the newbie hire, how in the world are you going to make any money when there is no inventory on the lot?

I'm not suggesting willee that you give them a pass because in your case, I would think the Toyota tool they have tells them approx. where the vehicle is in the build and ship process without too much effort, but I wouldn't think it fair to compare this purchasing experience to any of those 9 other sales you previously experienced.

I'm not excusing their lack of communication, but I have to agree with stftaco a little bit here. What a crappy time to be a car salesman. They rely on numbers, and they don't have them. The salesmen aren't the ones making money on selling everything at or above MSRP.

Question (before I bother @Rod03 too often) — Once it leaves on a train from San Diego, are there any updates before it arrives at the dealership? Maybe at rail destination? When loaded on ground transport? It left San Diego 4 days ago but the dealer says there is no official estimate in the system, he’s just guessing based off experience. Then 1-7 days from rail yard to dealership (unpredictable, depends on when the truck is full and a driver is available).

Not just limited inventory to sell, but a totally different skill with them selling allotments not even built yet.

I trust my rep but I’ve been waiting almost 2 weeks on my permanent VIN and after making some noise today he texted me a pair of screengrabs saying he still didn’t have it when as clear as day the VIN was in one of them. He thought it was the “temp stock number” that was showing in their tracking system.

Being a logistics guru just isn’t what these guys are cut out for and why Rod03 is such a tremendous help.
