What is this lock out feature? Aren’t your tie rods still keeping your wheels connected?

It’s not available so it’s all speculation. I don’t know how it will work specifically.

I was just reading a couple articles about the new EV tax breaks and it sounds like none of the current EVs will meet the made and sourced in the USA requirements. How long will it take manufacturers to start making and sourcing battery materials in the US? Years?

Final assembly of vehicles must be in USA. Toyota and VW are building battery plants to make the final assembly done in the USA. HYundai is making plans also. State incentives are not affected by final assembly location.

Well, peak daytime demand overloads the local grid's transmission capacity, typically. Hence 'charging at night unlikely to affect things'.
Also, a lot of those are caused by unforseen events - power lines failing, people hitting poles, power plants having maintenance periods and being offline during a demand surge...

I read this as, charging at night will cause the same high demand issues as daytime.

Where are you getting your info from? This is a quote from a PBS article but there are many others stating the same.

“This is where the new EV tax credit runs into some logistical hurdles. A provision in the bill limits eligibility for the tax credit to vehicles manufactured in North America and powered by batteries whose materials are sourced from the U.S. or its free trade partners. Currently, many American EV manufacturers, including Tesla, rely on battery materials processed in China — a country classified by the bill as a "foreign entity of concern." And any vehicle that was not assembled in the U.S., Mexico or Canada is off the table.”

I don't want to dig through the entire bullshit bill to find the specifics of the new EV tax credits so this is from another website about it. This is what I found:

"A percentage of the value of critical minerals in the battery — such as lithium and cobalt — must be extracted or processed in the U.S. or a country that’s a free-trade partner, or be recycled in North America. The requirement starts at 40% and grows to 80% by 2027."

It can be open to interpretation at this level. Most of the critical minerals are not extracted from China, just processed there. If the law is written to as extracted OR processed then most manufacturers will likely still have a qualifying battery. The potential upside to this is the third qualifier on source - recycled in North America. That provides a little more incentive to further refine the recycling process and to do it at home with American jobs.

Sounds like you don’t travel enough, range is a rather important topic, go on any travel site or towing it is talked about in-depth. Probably hearing more about it now with EVs, because it is quite a bit lower than a typical ICE vehicle, and don’t have quite the infrastructure like we have filling stations. Though most peoples charging needs can be done at home. Was absolutely thrilled that my new truck can easily go 400 miles where the old one was barely 265. The downside of these EVs you can’t add range easily like a petroleum powered vehicle. Have seen some talk of extra battery packs, won’t be cheap though.

Yes it is. most 2023 cars are not out yet and their final assembly locations for later 2023, 2024 etc. MY cars can't be determined because they aren't built yet. In January more info will be forthcoming. Some of the bill is in effect August 16, to Dec 31, 2022.
