Yeah, kelly blue book is like 4500... if it looks like a good truck, ill see how far I can knock them down. Biggest concern is that I have to drive 150 miles just to look at it.

Any tacoma you find will be IFS unless it has had a SAS but independant isnt to bad just not ideal for offroad, not as much flex. Thats when you just get yourself some sway bar quick disconects to gain that little but more.

Hrmm.. alright.. how bout this one:
    http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/2221116407.html

^^ i think that's about the best deal i've seen. I emailed him to ask how many miles it has on it. Nice and cheap.

I'd probably want to slap some paint on it :p

That one is pretty good, and a rare truck if it has the 3.4 l V6 in a reg cab truck. But see how many miles are on it. I mean these trucks will run forever.

If you get an older tacoma - make sure the FRAME is OK. Toyota FRAME rusts from the inside out - not good to buy!!

If you get a Jeep Wrangler, Don't buy anything older than 92 - as it'll have fuel injection. YJ Wranglers are sprung under/leaf springs.
97+ Jeep Wranglers are all coil sprung. 4.0L engine is the best.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used *built* rig unless you go over it with a fine toothed comb. Have someone with you to look at it. A lot of home-brewed rigs are hacked together and you'll end up re-doing everything they've built on it anyway. Or get a stock vehicle and have it built exactly the way you want it.

I had a built up 94 Wrangler. Nicely equipped and could be daily driven.

Somebody actually beat me to that one.

    What about this one:
    http://www.wilsonmotorco.net/vehicledetails.aspx?VID=130842509

I've got him down to $5500 right now. May offer $5500 out the door. Considerably less miles on it.. looks to be in good shape overall.

    Thoughts? Is $5500 to much?

I missed your post earlier. When you say rusts from the inside out.. where should I look exactly?

I like the idea of a jeep, but i like having a truck so i'd most likely go that route. Would a V6 in a regular cab be awesome, or is it better to go with V4 for gas milage?

I actually looked at this truck a few weeks ago when my buddy from school was looking for a 4x4, not in person though, but doesnt look to bad or anything sept for the drop in BL and that gay chrome brush gaurd :D I say go check it out and if you see anything that concerns you take a pic and post it up on here.

Rusts from the inside out as in look under the truck and see if there is rust on the inside of the frame but being from down here in the south it shouldnt be to terribly bad if any at all. The v6 in a reg cab would be pretty cool as well as the 5 spd:D manual is awesome offroad IMO, Id probably go with the v6 though cause once you lift it up and put tires and whatnot on it the gas is going to go down anyway, i get around 17.2 mpg in my ext cab 3.4 w/ 265/75/16's according to ultragauge, so personally i rather go ahead and have that extra power plus since you dont go that far for work it wouldnt hurt you so bad anyway.

Sweet. Thanks for all the info/replies.

Im going to look for a couple more days and then I may pull the trigger on that last one I linked. Dealership agreed to 5500 out the door but if I had known they had it for a few weeks I probably would have pushed for lower. That truck is probably worth it though.

If you guys find a better deal, let me know!
    Thanks again,
    -Flashy

yes you can buy an aftermarket locker, just make sure you at least get 4x4

as for wat to do with the first 1k, if not lifted then lift and tires and that will be pretty much the first k but hten after that a locker if you get a non TRD

Thanks for looking for me man. I like that baja but its a long ways to cali ;)

Yeah, ill definantly get 4x4. Someone else suggested the regular cab, but im gunna miss the extra room + the ability to recline... reg cab better than extended though for mudding aye?

Are after market lockers pretty good?
