Fortunately, that only applies in California

I agree about filters, but there are significant differences that can be felt with tires. Although, asking randos what tires are going to work best is pretty much useless.

Completely agree. Local geographic makeup and specific needs are key to tire choices.

This may be the wrong thread but I figured I might get a good answer from the folks here. I have had (4) Toyota 4X4's and all were/are manuals the latest being a 1st gen 99. Looking for #5 and I really thought I was dead set on a stick....That said I just test drove a 2021 TRD Off Road manual and it sucked. Pedal travel seems way too long and it's lite as a feather which made finding that sweet spot to give it gas difficult for me. Why in the world is reverse and 1st side by side....? Someone convince me that it will just take some getting used to and eventually I will love it.

Maybe I'm just getting to old to enjoy a modern stick shift....?

That statement seems like you are marginalizing the discussion between Manual Transmission tires vs Auto Transmission tires...

I don't think you are helping

I felt the same way and it was no problem to adapt to.

I like where Reverse is at. Makes flicking between them easy and fast. Never an issue overshooting 1st.

All modern MTs have the Euro reverse. I hate it. But it's useful.

Light as a feather? Mines in the middle.... Wonder if that's the difference with the Sport vs OR.

Either way, with new fluid (obviously) ADM and a week or so, it'll be like butter

I have had a mix of auto and standard vehicles over the years. For the most part, I have enjoyed then all in one way or another. For me though, buying my first new vehicle meant I could buy it the way I wanted it, within reason of course... ( Toyota's odd model allocation between Canada and the US ). I found 2 things were a priority for me, doublecab/crew cab and manual transmission. My wife told me that I wouldn't be happy with an Auto, and of course she was right. I definitely enjoy a manual over an auto. I never found reverse or the clutch to be an issue. I did install a short shifter kit, but that was my personal preference, more than a requirement. Coming on 5 years of ownership in a couple weeks and almost 73,000 kms of driving, I still love my truck and am happy with my decision.

I know everyone has different needs and desires... but for me, manual was what made my purchase better, and I can live with that.

Good luck with your decision, and hopefully it is right for you.:hattip:

By "Euro Reverse" I assume you mean Reverse is up and to the left. It seems Honda at least is bucking that trend as their Reverse slot for their 6-Speed manuals is down and to the right. :)

Clearly modern automatic transmission tires are better in most every instance, except the rare cases in which a manual transmission synthetic bias ply tire is needed. But most of that is dictated by the filtration capacity of the anal valve......

not sure if anyone is looking for a manual 3rd gen right now, but I do the glass work for my local ford dealership, and the other day, I was walking the lot trying to find the next windshield to do, and I came across a 22 TRD OR premium in silver, with the manual transmission. they mislabeled it in their system as an automatic TRD OR, but they're asking $46,998 for it with 8600 miles on it(and because its Montana, theres no sales tax on anything other than the $299 doc fee for the dealership) if anyone is interested, the dealership is Kendall Ford of Bozeman Montana. I wish I grabbed a picture of the exterior on it, but all I got was the sticker. the stock number on the Tacoma is 010587B, if anyone wants to look at it on their website.

Compared to some of the stuff I've seen lately, definitely on the cheaper end! especially because you might pay less MSRP somewhere else, but the sales tax adds up quick. just a thought on if anyone was in the market, its definitely not a bad deal. I talked to the sales manager, and they were saying that it was a guy who got it new, put the 8600 miles on it, and then traded it towards a new f150 because he already had two kids, and then got his wife pregnant again, and just needed something bigger for 3 kids and a wife!

I guess I'm lucky, I'm paying MSRP (which is thousands less than this lightly used Taco) and given New Hampshire doesn't have sales tax either, I'm paying MSRP to get it out the door. :)

Oh hell yeah! congrats man! Its hard to find the deals, but when you do, its so nice. I got lucky and found mine a year and a half ago(right before everything blew up into the stratosphere) at the dealership 3 miles from my house. 2019 with 13k miles on it, I got it feb of 21, and out the door, after doc fees and registering the truck, 34k all said and done. the deals are out there, you just have to hunt far and wide.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you pay the sales tax wherever you register it. So even if you bought it there in Montana, when you bring it home and register it in your state, you'll still pay your state's sales tax on it. So really the no sales tax thing only benefits people who live in those states that have that.
