    LOL.

OP, I have a 2014 sport AC with a little less rust than that and I’m confident with it.

Plus, dealership called me a month ago and did the rust prevention. So, with the late second gens, I wouldn’t be so worried.

Hi folks. Looking for my first taco and found a 2013 4D 6-ft bed with 101k miles on it for 22k. Seems like good history. But worried about rust (has florida plates). Is this too much rust? Thanks y'all!

To get that much rust in Fla. I would be suspect, probably was driven on the beach and in salt water.

By the way I live in Connecticut .

I have a 13-access cab 4x4 and it had been Fluid Filmed since new.

When i went in for the frame insp . the shop manager asked me about FF and indicated my truck didn't have any rust and the frame was like new, all my truck needed was a baffle in the box section/ c section and the needed sealant that goes with the frame inspection

I don’t see a lot of scale rust on the frame in your pictures. But you really need to get a look at the problem areas, the inside of the box section near the catalytic converters in particular. My 2011 looks a lot like that, I am slowly going through and doing rust remediation especially on the welds which, as in this truck’s case, is where the rust looks the worst. Mine has a little bit of scale, but nothing that has compromised the structural integrity of the frame. That’s really what you need to know about this one. Can you take it to a shop for a pre-purchase inspection?

The other thing to be aware of besides the frame itself is the nuts and bolts that may be problematic to remove during servicing. You will likely need to replace certain parts that decide not to disassemble well. Just plan for that, and take it into account in the pricing, and it’s really not a big deal.

Thanks so much for the comments folks. Ended up passed as they wouldn’t drop the price at all. Now think I have a better deal with a 2012 TRD OR with 72,000 for 25k. CO truck and looks better underneath, I think. ( pics below)

again thanks for 2 cents everyone.

Rust doesn't look bad at all in the areas shown. Looks like one cat was replaced. Note that the 2012 had a secondary air injection pump that was the subject of a recall/TSB as it could fail and cause expensive damage to the engine. Just something to be aware of and check out should you buy it.

Alright folks this is the last one I’ll ask about. 2013 4D 6ft TRD sport. Exactly what I want at 110k miles for 22k. Just got here too look at it, but seems like a bit more rust than expected. WI title with 2 owners around Green Bay so expected. But is it anything structural? More than surface?

The pics don't get a good shot of all the views that are needed. That boxed area near the catalytic converters as mentioned before in particular. But good views of the inside of the C frame (the part that's not boxed) and it looks pretty good. Transmission support looks kinda nasty but it's replaceable, the mounts for it less so, hopefully they're in good shape. Scale visible in some places but not in vast sheets. Like @Inbred said, in the rust belt this wouldn't be considered rusted out. Overall this truck is a little worse than mine, but better in some locations. With a good inspection indicating it doesn't have a really bad spot, this isn't so bad IMO. Proper rust remediation would be called for though; I'm slowly doing mine, and I don't need to rush since it has a west coast home now. Are you up for some quality time spent under the truck to do it yourself?

Springs look terrible, shocks look original, so plan on replacing those. Probably the front shocks too if they're original.

There are other reasons to avoid the 05-06 models - higher frequency of blown head gaskets, timing cover oil leaks, and busted frame at the motor mount area, which was reinforced in subsequent model years.

It’ll be significantly worse inside the frame rails.

Yeah. You folks are spot on. I'm ditching my WI/midwest search and going west. Sick of all the rust I've been seeing despite everyone saying "there is NO rust I promise!"

    Thanks again folks. Appreciate it.
