Agreed. I think Kaulig would be a better fit but it would be good to see what RCR could do with him in a car. I think if he goes to RCR it will be in the 8 and Reddick will be in the 45 but a lot has to do with Kurt at this point.

But, again, it's about being first to the finish. That's literally all that matters. It doesn't matter if you had "the best car" if you don't make it to the line first. Sometimes being the best driver on the day simply means being able to make a 15th place car finish first. Cautions are part of the game and it's on the entire team and driver to adapt. Furthermore, most (if not all) drivers thank their teams for all of their wins, not just fuel mileage wins. You can have the best car but if your rear tire changer is slow, it can cost you. Fact is, fuel mileage is all sort of strategy. It's exactly what Chase Elliott tried to pull off at Watkins Glen. Strategy, like it or not, is all part of racing. I wouldn't want to see fuel mileage in every race, but I certainly don't take anything away from that win. They did what they had to to ensure they crossed the line first.

Bubba Wallace will drive the #45 in the playoffs, for some reason

He wants that owners title. Crappy move if you ask me. Kurt got the 45 to the playoffs. Who's to say Ty can do just as good if not better? That smells like an MJ move.

So, is Ty switching to the 23 or it'll sit through the playoffs?

If I had to guess, Ty will be driving it since they have a charter for it.

Putting Bubba in the 45 is literally just a way to keep him in the conversation. He did not make the chase so they need some reason to make him relevant and to say his name. The 45 is currently 12th in the owners standings so its not like he has a real shot at it anyway.

just a shitty move in my opinion. MJ had a huge influence on that, no doubt.

That's been Ty's ride since Kurt got hurt. Keep it that way. He hasn't done anything to lose that seat.

I would also be willing to bet by the final 3 or 4 races Ty will be solidly outrunning Bubba every week. This move is very questionable.

One theory I've heard has to do with contractual drivers vs non-contractual drivers. Ty is the bigger risk as well simply because of inexperience. He has proven to be pretty good so far, but that's not guaranteed. Not to mention Bubba has finished higher in each race Gibbs has been in except Watkins Glen.

Ty is a generational talent and there's no denying that. I understand what your saying but Gibbs has shown more speed recently than Bubba.

That's a pick your poison. Both are JGR/23X1 long term future drivers. This, as I said, in my opinion, is a big boss decision.

I don't know about Gibbs showing more speed than Bubba:

    Gibbs:
    - Pocono: 16th
    - Indy: 17th
    - Michigan: 10th
    - Richmond: 36th
    - Watkins Glen: 26th
    - Daytona: 13th

    Wallace:
    - Pocono: 8th
    - Indy: 5th
    - Michigan: 2nd
    - Richmond: 13th
    - Watkins Glen: 35th
    - Daytona: 11th

Yeah, while Ty has put up decent numbers for jumping into a Cup car, Bubba is outrunning Ty:

    In the same races:

    Gibbs Average Start: 16.7

    Gibbs Average Finish: 19.7

    Bubba Average Start: 15.1

    Bubba Average Finish: 12.33

Dale Jr. finished 3rd in the late model race at NW last night. It was a good turnout from what I saw but that was probably just because of Jr. I would like to see NASCAR come back to that worn out old track that eats tires.
