Happened to my 2020 last week. Let it sit for 30 min and all was normal again. Hasn’t happened since. Fingers crossed.

This happened to my 2020 TRD OR with 23k miles. Went out to get food around 8pm (70 degree weather). Worked fine and after about a 2 mile drive and 30 minutes later, it got the fuzzy green screen. Drive home, turned off the truck and started it back up. It went back to normal. Because it's still under warranty and I didn't want to have issues after the warranty expired next year, I took it into the dealership. They ordered a new MID module and because it has to be calibrated with my trucks present mileage, I was not allowed to take my truck home and they gave me a loaner.........6 weeks later ...... The part still hasn't arrived!!!! Beyond frustrated.20220722_210936.jpg

Are you still driving their loaner? I hope so! Sucks that it’s been so long without your truck!

Are you making payments on a vehicle you can't drive? Ouch. If it were me - I'd call the dealership and request an ETA on the part - if necessary I'd call the Toyota Engagement Center (number I think in your warranty booklet) and ask them to inquire and determine when your dealership is likely to get the part. These are unprecedented times. But I think there's probably parts in the system, and one could be shipped to your dealership??? You could probably buy one and bring it into the dealership in a matter of a few days, but i could be wrong about that... :frusty:

Yep.... Still driving the loaner. 2021 Corolla SE. Great MPG and pretty snappy on the gas pedal but...... I miss my truck.

Fortunately.... My truck is already paid off. The dealership said they are at the mercy of the factory for parts. Apparently, one guy has been waiting for a Cat since April!!! My part is supposed to be here tomorrow. But the service department isn't all that hopeful that it will show up. I've explained that I am really not interested in waiting much longer as I have already canceled two camping trips and now hunting season is starting.

Yeah, forgot about the inconvenience to those that camp, hunt, off-road
, haul, tow, mod, whatever with their trucks. o_O Good thing it's paid off. I guess the upside is less mileage on your vehicle. You'd think though they'd divert some production to support warranty repairs. All we tend to hear about is how electronic shortages, pandemic, shipping, etc impacts new unit production, sales and profit. But what about service and repairs? Hoping it shows up real soon, and that the situation improves quickly for all.

damn that sucks man sorry to hear your still waiting, i guess it was a good thing the dealer told me they never heard of this problem lol i even had pictures to validate it, but when i took my truck in for the appt of coarse it was like going to the doctor and it was normal! they said they couldn't replicate the problem so they sent me packing! luckily it has not acted up since. do you remember when it did the scramble was it extreme temps? i only ask as i was asked the same question by service writer which it was in the 100's with high humidity, also I've seen other posts on here and fb of this happening in extreme temps both cold and hot just curious

All it takes is a cold solder joint, and that can lead to a thermal flakey. Same with a hairline fracture in a circuit board trace, or circuit board via (connections between layers of a multi layer circuit board). Extreme ambients can cause these poor connections to fail. If it's because of a poor connector in a wire bundle, large temperature changes can create problems. Vibration can also cause issues as well.

Got word this afternoon that the part hasn't even shipped yet. Apparently it is coming from Croatia and still needs to go to the place to get calibrated. They are telling me mid October. I have no desire to wait another 6 weeks. My dealership offered to look at other rental agencies for a truck for me at their cost. I accepted their offer but only if they can find one by Friday. Otherwise, I am just going to roll the dice that it doesn't happen again and get my truck back. Although, driving around in a little Corolla has been pretty good on my gas bill. $50 fills it up and last almost two weeks. Lol.

I live in San Diego....never gets too hot or too cold here. It can't be a weather issue with my issue.

Don't feel too bad, I had my Supra in for a while and they gave me a Corolla Hybrid to drive for like a 1.5 months. It did at least get amazing gas mileage (and was surprisingly fun to huck down a canyon road lol).

that’s basically the worst news you can get. Especially since they will give you an F-150. Sorry to hear that man.

OK, 12 weeks/3 months for an instrument cluster, and they probably can't guarantee it will be at the dealership mid-October, right? That is really bad and I'm also sorry to hear that. I guess I would be careful about how a long-term rental was insured.

The screen on my 2020 was scrambled this morning. Restarted the truck and it seemed fine. Your story makes me hesitate to try the dealer. For the others that have had this happen, has it been a one time occurrence or has it happened multiple times?

My truck is still under warranty so I wanted to make sure it got taken care of now versus it being an issue later and I have to come out of pocket (they told me it would be around $2K). I know most who had the same problem said that once turning it off and on again that it worked and never had a problem again. I didn't want to take that chance. The part took forever to arrive (nearly 2 months) and because it has to match the speedometer, you can't drive your vehicle. Since mine was a warranty issue, I got lucky and got a loaner. Maybe insurance would cover rentals if your truck is out of warranty. Good luck!
