Im planning on getting some 881's for up front (coil and shocks) and 5100's out back with an AAL.

Would it be better to get Bilstiens up front as with the 881 coils or are the OME shocks good enough?

    Thanks.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
If you're going to get the 881 coil, you should get the OME shock. They are designed around each other. My $.02

OME shocks are good, they cost more but better. bilsteins are still good too.

im running 881's with 5100's set on "0"...........about to take them off and put on my ome nitrochargers soon as they come in. i dont like the ride of the 5100 coupled with the 881 coils.

I'm debating going with the 881 and 5100 set at 0" set up, what is wrong with the ride? Too rough?

It'll ride great at first....but on really rough road.........no good. Those struts are too progressive for those coils. I have close to 20k on my setup now and I'm about to dump it.

i have the 5100's currently at the highest setting, but after a year and a half they've settled to about 2 inches of lift. They give a bit of a jarring ride on rough roads, so thats why i was wondering whether the 881's would help out with the ride since the shocks wouldn't be loaded at all. What do you mean by progressive?

stiffer. and the 881 is already a medium spring. it'd be alright with a bit of weight to soak some of it up.............but im going with a set of nitrochargers...as they are valved for those springs.

thanks for the info man, the springs would be even stiffer on mine i'm assuming (4cyl ext cab) compared to your V6 double cab due to even less weight. I may just stick with the 5100's and stock coils

I'm just still torn b/c i just can't see how the 881's with the 5100's not loaded down, wouldn't be an improvement over a loaded shock and 160k mile old coils

go with the billies they are monotube design and are much more reliable. ome is designed around their springs but they are quicker to overheat and the hydraulic oil can "foam" resulting in fading.

on a side note im using the 883 coils which have a higher spring rate than the 881s and bilsteins and im happy with the ride

    Resurrecting an ooooold thread.

I have shot almost an entire day crawling through (feels like) hundreds of posts about OME 881 springs with 5100 shocks, OME vs 5100, etc. This is the ONLY post I have so far come across claiming Bilstein shocks are much more reliable than OME Nitrochargers. Also, I do not recall many, if any, other posts stating or claiming that OME Nitrochargers fade because "they are quicker to overheat and the hydraulic oil can "foam" resulting in fading."

Perhaps a monotube shock is a better design than however the Nitrochargers are designed. As an engineer I am not trained nor versed in shock design, nor have I studied it, so I cannot comment. However, I can ask... anybody out there have had issues with Nitrochargers "fading"? Or other issues with Nitrocharger shocks? Everything I have read on here... I'm not sure I've even read one bad post about full OME setups. (And I cannot recall anyone posting about how they ran Nitrocharger shocks with springs other than OME.)

    Anyone? Buehler? Buehler?
