2k straight, "on sale" for 1600. This is like, the base model corolla of rooftop tents. I think a lot of the cost comes from shipping and handling. It's still "just" a 2 person tent, but it's heavy and massive. Takes up a lot of space and people to move it in production.

The sales pitches are that they're easy to set up, and off the ground.

Here's a 2 person cot tent for 350$ that accomplishes the same thing without a ladder

Don't get me wrong - I HAVE one of those Tepuis I linked above, got it second (third, fourth?) hand - hand me down from a friend who got it from @Ferball so it was a normal price. But I use it now for when I am out with the wife, solo I just do my platform (OR I now have a hammock, trying that out this weekend!)

Why pay $1600 for something you don't even know if you'll like it. Start small and upgrade, this seems like a great value 2 person cot-tent.

Yeah! That place has exploded. I remember (heh, "back in my day!") when the owner bought the first restaurant. Before that, in Salem we had Chili's, T Bones, and the Colosseum. He really was on the front end of that revitalization. DUMPED money into the old racetrack to redo it, to what it is now. And to think, it was because the owner there got pancaked on a motorcycle. Otherwise Tuscan dude probably would have done elsewhere and the dilapidated track would still be "standing" (I use that word loosely).

Absolutely! I just couldn't see someone dropping 2.2k on a rooftop tent and realizing "oh, wow, this sucks".

 

Oh yeah, the apartments there are like more expensive than Boston.. but hey Theres a farmers market on sundays lmao

Pretty much. Don't get me wrong, there's a whole subreddit called /r/fuckcars which is fantastic about the dorm-ish style living and walkable communities etc. I love it. But like, it's SALEM. And it's more of a "Thou shalt drink the milk of my teet" sort of thing, since he owns the whole shebang.

That said - as much as I can critique it, the alternative was an aforementioned dilapidated horse racing track, with collapsing stables. Towns and progress don't come from nowhere, and this dude put in a LOT of up front to build up the town.

Still - I wouldn't pay 700k for a condo in Salem. That's a 300k hard limit. MAYBE 400k now post-Rona

But I did just see there are >1mil condos elsewhere in Salem. WTF. Gotta be hitting a demographic of people who want to be in NH and work in MA, that's bananas. Anyone who pays over a mil to live in Salem should be committed.

 

That's how it goes these days. Post covid, all the hoity toits from NYC flooded up north into the Hudson Valley and thoroughly fucked everything up. Middle of nowhere towns with absolutely nothing going on renting at 2k+ a month and selling for north of half a mil when it used to be closer to half that, but it's all spilled milk at this point and I'm just being bitter lmao

 

Went to Newport RI and met a family on one of those boat tours that did exactly that. Started to work remotely and then decided to stay around gansett bay.

I'm having the body fixed on the stupid duty.. New rockers, cab corners, doors, etc....

Frame is solid, but, showing signs of some winter use... will be replacing coil buckets in the spring...

In the mean time, I am going to get the frame blasted.. not stripped of every component...

Galvanized! Lol prime and paint from my reading and experience. Then plenty of black woolwax. Coat with ww before mounting everything back on? I mean powerboat with 2 layers if possible. You could get it linexd since nothing will be on the frame
