It was a struggle, lol. I was there for quite awhile. They would cut some , check for a clear margin , then cut some more. Every time I was asking for more painkiller.

I'm starting to think Welding would've been a better path. My buddy is a traveling welder. He's not hard up for cash...

I did a lot of side welding when I got off from here when I was younger, had a service truck with everything I needed. That is how I have so much nice equipment at home, it paid for itself and then some. When I got married and had kids and took the store over along with still working 40 hours in the machine shop, my welding gig took a back seat. I do have a welding job to do Saturday though......I'm to the point I don't look forward to welding on Saturday like I used too.

I really like welding, and doing odd jobs when I need some cash would be nice. I'd honestly like to own my own fab shop, with plenty of welding and a couple of CNCs. I just gotta figure out a million dollar idea.

Story time to do with the upcoming welding job Saturday. A customer ask me if I could weld a gate for his horse barn. He said his wife's dad had a welder and tools in his barn, hasn't been used since he passed away.

A few years ago a guy came in the store on a Saturday afternoon in his work uniform and bought a 6 pack of Bud Light. About 2 hours later a fire truck and ambulance went by. Long story short I talked to a guy and he said the guy had shot himself. Some how we got to talking about beer and I ask was there a 6 pack of Bud Light nearby, he said yeah :eek::eek:

Last Saturday when I went to look at the gate project the kids and I got home and I was talking to my wife about the guy having a welder and stuff in his building but I prefer to use my stuff. She said you know who her dad was don't you? I said I have no idea, she said the guy who shot himself

Start small, that's what most people do unless they inherit a company or win the lottery.

    ...and stay small.

Every welding job you do is advertisement. The coconut telegraph will let everyone know you do great work .

Once your side gig becomes a job, it's not as much fun.

I have to turn work down. I don't like doing it, but you just have to.

That was my problem for a long time, I didn't know how to say no. Now when people ask me about welding something, I say what is it? I have no problem sending them to someone else.

It's a small world. Wish people that are in a bad place would just talk to the people around them. Depression makes you blind to how many people actually care about you. If any of the Lime Green Crew need to chat send me a PM. We're all in this together friends.

I think it was you the other day saying they liked covered bridges. I didn't have a chance to go get this link from our Regional Forums page. I live in S. Indiana. Indiana has about 90 covered bridges.

This guy is documenting he and his wife visiting them in their Tacoma:

Exactly. The guy that day was as normal as normal could be when I saw him. If he would have only said something.

We all have our struggles and problems, it's not all like it seems on social media.
I'm here for yawl too, PM is wide open if anybody needs it :fistbump:

That was my problem for the longest time, not being able to say no. I’ve gotten better at it, I had a guy message me the other day he wasn’t even asking, more like telling me he needed lights, receptacles, and a generator hookup put in and wanted to know when I was going to be there. I told him I wasn’t interested in the work, I didn’t have time. He said well I don’t know anyone else what do I do? I said sorry man don’t know what to tell ya.

Yep... I often wonder how much I have saved by knowing basic mechanics, plumbing, electrical and framing... I've re-plumbed and re-wired my house, renovated most of it, and done 90% of my vehicle repairs over my life... couldn't imagine having to call in "someone" for every little thing.
