Find your way to the Eldorado Hotel in Dawson City in the Yukon for the best eggs benedict you will ever have.

Not only have some of you been dropped on your heads....it appears you also grew up next to a nuclear waste pond. Bad hand in life, pity.

How would it impact your life if it was recommended you not visit the gas station from 4-9pm? Would that vehicle of yours be stuck in the driveway? Would you have to teach yourself how to ride a tricycle to get around (bicycles seem a bit complicated for this crowd)? How about the other appliances they mention? Does your laundry just not ever get done if your mom can't do it from 4-9pm? You people seriously make me regret living in a democracy.

California's ban on gas-powered cars won't be easy - CalMatters

California has ~29M cars and light trucks. Annual sales are ~2M per year.

CY2021 sales of BEV and PHEV combined was ~237K units. ~12% and climbing.

    California: Plug-In Car Sales Up 79% In 2021, Tesla Model Y #2 Overall (insideevs.com)

So, in the next 13 years a guess would be at ~26M new vehicles will be sold in California. Even if electric accounts for half of those there will still be plenty of gas powered cars for those that want them after new gas sales are stopped. The astounding thing in California is your car/truck doesn't rust out. You can run that gas car as long as you are willing to fix it so you can buy a 2030 Tacoma in 2040 and just keep going.

Side note - That timeline outlives the useful lives of many vehicles in the midwest/northeast. My buddy in Iowa has my old 2004 F150 and he just sold it because the rust had trashed it. My 2006 Tacoma got a new frame in 2018 because the salt in Iowa trashed it. If not for the lawsuit/settlement my Tacoma would already have been dead long before the new sales restrictions hit.

It will get sorted. If someone is really bent or worried suggest they buy in 2030, or 31, or 32 or 2029. There is at minimum a decade to save up for that down payment.

I'm really glad to see the innovation in Gas/BEV/PHEV/Hydrogen. We are all better off when the automakers are forced to compete and innovate.

California has the highest total of new vehicle sales in the US. This site shows in 2018 sales the combined sales of Florida and Texas was higher than California. Based on those volumes and those states no following California rules I'm guessing a person can still get a gas car/truck in 2036.

How Many New Cars Are Sold Each Year? [Updated 2022] (axlewise.com)

If they want to be part of the 2M annual sales in California they will step up their game and they will offer a diversity of vehicle capability and price points. I like the Rivian, I like that people with Toyotas look at Rivians to keep pressure on Toyota to bring out new product.

Yeah, but things start to move quickly once the critical mass gets moving. Would you have guessed in 2007 that 80+% of adults in the US would own a smartphone and pay its plan rates? I’ll bet $5 that all new Tacomas are fully electric by 2035. $5 won’t buy you a coffee by then, but I’m good for it if you want to wager.

Toyoda-san did set a goal date for full 'Zero Carbon' (BEV, FCEV, etc.) fueled cars in their world lineup. I can't find the year he set.

Granted Norway’s population is only 1/8th of Californian’s.

I’ll bet it will be hard to buy a new gas vehicle well before any of these mandates take effect. I don’t see the auto manufacturers keeping both gas and EV model lines going.

There is hydrogen as well, which is allowable under the new California rules. Don’t see that ever becoming viable since the government seems dead set on sole battery EVs.

If you watch until the end, May’s closing statement pretty much sums up the evolution of the automobile.

look I can explain it to you, I can’t understand for you. Not currently sonny boy. Read deeper in the article. I’m sorry you are having comprehension issues.

we aren’t talking about all models, we are talking EV’s. Stay on target. The current tax credit is $7500 for EV’s. Ford raised the price on their EV’s by $8500 so you end up paying more in the end.
