Holy hell that’s a lot of money. Almost feels like the “we don’t want to mess with it, go away” price.

Would be interesting to know the details of what they think is actually wrong with it.

Now that’s a whole different story
I hope they gave you a full report what is wrong ? That sounds a little generic to me . Is it the lower half / the top half ?

Can't imagine that even if you had NO valve stem seals, you could burn a quart of oil in a thousand miles. Feels to me like it's got to be a scored cylinder, failed rings, something along that line.

Agree. Definitely push for a specific, detailed diagnosis.

I agree but then it should run not very good. Power loss etc
I would want to see full compression test / plugs etc

So they are trying to get you to rebuild an engine without knowing what is wrong ?
That does not sound right. What if the heads are just bad or even just one head . Are any spark plugs wet with oil . Leak down test ?
That would not be a good answer for me
I would go some where else.

I would press for more details. Like, how did they rule out valve stem seals?

Where did the 1qt every 1000 come from?

Well looks like you may have been right here. He said it burned a quart in 1000 miles so I doubt that's from valve seals. Don't even think a sticky ring at this point either. Likely a scored cylinder wall for that type of consumption. Surprised there was no smell or signs of smoke with that heavy of oil consumption.

Guess we know why the pervious owner got rid of it.

I just don’t get it, how someone can drive like crazy and don’t take care of it. Must be a lunatic.

Same, even my old heaps I drove when I was younger I at least tried to take care of and not beat on since it was my transportation and I wasn't exactly in a position in life to run out and buy another one immediately. That said, some people just don't care.

What did the carfax show before you bought it? I hope the dealer you got it from didn't buy it at auction. That is a pretty good clue that someone knew there was something wrong and dumped it.

Seriously? That is all you can respond with? Pretty good indication that you have no idea what you are talking about. Good luck in the future having 'your' lawyer do the fighting for you.
