Getting 03 that was given to me back in action (Over 300k but still solid truck).

At first no start/fire at all. I found the cam sensor or crank sensor wire was bitten off so I replaced and now I get a fire and run for about one second then immediate stall. If I start with throtle it will respond and rev but still stall after about a second. Seems like ignition is being cut. Will not re-fire if I crank again; but if I turn the key off and then crank fires for one second each time.

It is possible the oil is over-filled a little, I looked at the mass air sensor and tried disconnecting and no change.

Really would like any information. One time when my friend was driving it It shut off similarly and I found one of the connections to the intake air flow off and when i reattached it kept running after that. Can't reproduce the succes of that instance.

    Thanks for ideas

Very hard to diagnose something like this remotely... there are a LOT of things that it could be. Is the MIL illuminated? Buy, beg or borrow a scan tool, preferably with live data capability. Even if there aren't any codes set (I'd be surprised), there are likely some pending codes. Those, along with a live data snapshot of ignition, fuel, and associated sensor PIDs should get you in the right direction.

Does it make any difference whether the truck has been sitting, say overnight? Any noticeable change when the ambient temperature changes?

MIL? Engine light always on. I will try to get meter for codes (any you recommend?) no change from temp/weather it has been sitting for a while (so battery was completely discharged (it did appear there was a little draw on it before I got it...trying to get it mobile so I can go through it and fix things one at a time.
    Thanks for reply

How long did it sit for? Have you done anything to stabilize or refresh the gas?

Definitely pull the codes because that will point you in the right direction. Almost sounds like a MAF sensor issue but could be more issues on top of that

MIl is another way for saying check engine light. MIL = malfunction indicator lamp.
Your check engine light will stay on because it’s not running. Probably hasn’t ran long enough to set a code although there may be a preexisting code. I’d say the computer isn’t seeing one of the sensors or a wire is shorted to ground somewhere. Follow all wiring under hood and check for rodent damage. good luck.

That depends on how long it's been sitting. My truck sat for about 3 months without starting. I added 5 gallons of fresh 91 and whatever fuel additive i found at the parts store. It ran like shit until I got all the old gas outta there. If it were longer, I would consider getting a transfer pump and removing as much of the existing gas as you can.

Ok sensor, fuel treatment, look for more chewed wires...I will report when I learn more. Thanks for thoughts and all are welcome. It does take throttle for that initial start and revs smooth and strong (for one second)

Does it immediately stop after the same amount of time? That is does it always run for exactly 1 (or however many seconds) and than stop without any hesitation?

yes always fires and then stops after same amount of time...has to reset the ignition to get fire again...so fast it seems like ignition instead of fuel (also takes fuel and revs depending on how i have throttle when i start it)

Got the meter and found an alternate key fob to see if there is anything about that security feature. when i opened the gas door there was a nest of wasps; so I didn't get to try the solutions out yesterday. hope to send update today. If it is getting the initial spark can I reasonably trust that my repair of the cam sensor is acceptable? Thanks for all the thoughts

Have you pulled the air filter out to make sure no critters made a home in there?
You can also try unplugging the MAF sensor and see if it stays running.

Finally able to work after the bees. Code PO351 Ignition Coil A
Then 3 codes about throttle position sensor)which when i Charged was making a sound so i disconnected and reconnected (I will try to reset/check that). Could bad ignition coil give me that problem? Seems reasonable. Glad for any advice on replace/change and if that is the next step. Thank you all again. (airway clear no rodents nests etc. MAF seems no different plugged in or not or before or after cleaning

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
look for more chewed or rubbed wires as well as open fuses. Could be where the wires plug into the ECM.

The ECM is missing one of the feed back signals and shuts off the fuel to what it detects as a non running engine.

There is a few that will cause this. One circuit at a time.

    Best of luck

Thank you, The location of where wires connect to ECM is in the engine compartment or under the dash? I will be searching more and reviewing all the fuses

The harness goes through the fire wall The ECM is under the glove box.

If it is physical damage it most likely where the harness is not protected as well.

    good luck
