    Hello!

I made an account here today in hopes that one of you fine tacoma enthusiasts would be able to help me end a two month long issue of a replacement rear diff.

Back in July, I was in an accident where I was hit in my rear driver side tire, bending my axle and cracking the housing, since then I have spent just about every single day attempting to track down the part that I need. About a month back, I found what I thought would be a replacement, the part having all the listed requirements provided by my mechanic, so I bought it, and had it shipped to me, costing me about half a grand to do so. It gets here, turns out my truck has ELD, which I was not informed of, and my grandfather whom I purchased the truck from was not aware of either. Issue being that it is the wrong bolt pattern and can't be put onto my truck.

So now I'm in a position where I am entirely stuck at home, having lost my job due to having no transport to and from work, and spending most of my nights awake and anxious unsure of what I'm gonna do.

If any of you would be so kind as to let me know of any outlets of finding a replacement part outside of the usual junkyard/pick-and-pull solutions everyone has thrown at me, I would be more grateful than I could effectively put to words.

My rear diff has the following specifications: 4:10 Gear Ratio, ELD, 13 bolt pattern, open differential

    Where are you at?

sounds like you either need a locking 3rd member, or a complete axle, or a non locking axle to put your new 3rd into

What did you actually purchase, an axle housing? Or a differential for your axle housing. It might just be me, but it's hard to tell from your description.

By ELD, I assume you are referring to an e-locker. If so, Toyota refers to this as an 8.0" ring gear diff. To confuse things, non elocker diffs also came on 1st gen trucks. The non elocker diff is referred to as an 8.4" ring gear diff. The parts and the axle housings for these two diffs are not interchangeable.

Where are you located? You could always get a an 8.4 center and drop in the new housing and reuse your axles to get you going. Depending on how it was hit I have seen the wheel mount/axle flange get tweaked too.

You are looking for a TRD OFFROAD axle.

The TRD OFFROAD package came with an Electronic Locking Differential. call local pick 'n pulls and ask if they have any 01-04 OFFROAD tacomas.

Not the Sport, not the SR5. OFFROAD.

This has the axle, bolt pattern and 3rd member you need.

Can take take Sport of that list. Sport started with 2nd gens which was LSD no locker. 1st gens had Limited trim but that's not LSD. LSD was not offered for 1st gens afaik but I have heard a few people saying they were.

I think you're correct here. Thanks.

1st gens had 2wd, Pre-Runner, SR5, TRD Offroad and Limited. The only model that will work for OP is the OFFROAD in 4wd, as it will have the correct lug pattern and differential. Right? Or did the Pre-Runners have the same diff and lug pattern when OFFROAD package was purchased?

Yep Prerunner TRD will work too, same rear end as 4WD TRD.

    Alright OP,

You need to find a 1st GEN OFFROAD, whether it be 4wd or Prerunner.

And the insurance of the person hitting you isn't funding the parts/labor for the repairs because????

But yes, posting your location (city/state is fine to start) and you might wind up with someone able to physically assist as the previous posts indicate.

    Best of luck!

Hello! I apologize, I am very new to this, and very much so not car savvy

I live in New Jersey, I need a housing and Axle, everything else is functional. The accident bent my axle and cracked my rear housing, I'll work on getting pictures from my mechanic when I can! Thank you for replying

    Sadly to far from me!

Just what did you buy that you can not use??

Are you getting a labor discount to source parts?

If your mechanic failed to notice you had a locker Might be time to rethink things unless the mechanic ate the cost since it was there fault.

If your Truck has been down Two months why not just install a non locker axle to get up and running?

Install a Locker axle when you can locate one.

    Since your without a vehicle.
