Grabbed on a whim today: Beam Single barrel. Unfiltered and at an interesting 108 proof.

Specs are similar to Old Tub but who knows about mashbill and yeast.

If you don't like Scotch, you won't like Japanese. Whole world away from bourbon...

I have to be in the right frame of mind for something like a Talisker, but my Lord, any day is a good Highland Park day.

My great fear in Scotch is the BT Hordes suddenly developing a love of Springbank.

One of the few scotches where EVERYTHING is done in house. They malt their own grains, distill, bottle, etc.

The 10 year is usually found for $50 and punches way above that.

There are Japanese like HP, but not easy to find. Hakushu 12 would be one, Nikka Miyagikyo another. Although the Nikka has a bit less peat than the other two.

If you can find Springbank 10 for $50 buy 3 for me and I'll pay the $25 shipping fee to send it here. I've only seen it in a store once, for about $75, and I bought both. Actually saw it on their website and drove 15 miles to get it. Sublime.

I need to try the Springbank. This is the only Campbeltown I've had.

I'll let you know. It comes around from time to time. NC is state controlled so everything's retail...when it shows up. Luckily, Scotch isn't nearly as popular down here so stuff stays on the shelves.

Edit: Just checked and apparently the retail price is up to $75 here now too. So, there's that. Great. I spoke it into being I guess.

Revisited the 1792 small batch I got last week with a heavy pour and an ice sphere. Much better and brought out what felt like a thick maple flavor.

lol. Supposed to knock on wood when you say shit like that.

I used to chase bourbon and got tired of it. My last 3 Blanton's were very not good. Single barrel is a lottery. So I tried scotch and Japanese and loved it. So much easier to get a great bottle without the fuss. Only, Japanese has become very popular and is chased now, and some Scotch is becoming the same. Oban 14 is my regular and fortunately, no problems getting it.

I don't chase so much as round regularly and take what's there to take.

My weaknesses are BT, WT Rare Breed, Russell's Reserve, luckily easy to find aside from the BT.

If I'm choosing Scotch it's usually Johnnie Green, Talisker, or Port Charlotte. As you can tell, I'm a peat guy, but I do enjoy Glenmorangie 10 when I need a break from it.
