Topped up with 5.2 L. Was expecting at least 5 L because I removed the filter as well. Leaky valve cover gaskets I guess. But, now I know that the motor will run with as little as 3.5 L.

... ... You know there is a way to check the oil level in your engine right?

    Edit:
And there is even a way to just add more.

That’s why I want to know the milage intervals. The 2004 I have with 276k on the odo doesn’t burn oil like this hit the oil gets changed at 5k.

Yeah there's no way you are loosing that much oil from the valve cover gaskets in between oil changes. Sure not all the oil is going to drain out during an oil change but if your estimations are correct something is up.

My 01 has 275K mi, valve covers are leaking a bit and I see no noticeable oil loss in between oil changes at 5-6K. If your valve covers & cam seals were leaking that much, it would have caused you to replace them rather than just tightening the valve cover bolts like you recently did.

So 9000k is a bit long for oil changes for our vehicles age. Don't matter what kind of oil you use. And especially if your driving conditions don't warrant extended oil changes. You may want to consider changing oil sooner than that if you care about your truck. No more than 6 months even if you were not to put a lot of miles on it. If you put about 1K a month on it then 6 mo is about right. Some people think if they don't drive a vehicle much and it takes 2 yrs to put 5K on it that's not ok to change it at 2 yrs
